Hi, I’m a highschool senior with 4 years of track and field experience. I applied to University of Notre Dame hanging on a thin spider’s web sized string hoping to be accepted to their college of engineering. But I’d really like to fill my day with as many sports activities as my spare time will allow. If you saw me, you wouldn’t know it by my build, nor do I have a physique of an Atlas. I’m a skinny kid that enjoys discus and javelin and I do distance runs. What I’m trying to say is that I am not the typical roided up appearance of an athlete (no insult intended).
With the understanding that many of the ND team sports are geared more for those who are chosen from an extreme level lot, I feel it’d be ridiculous for me to even apply to any of their sports activities but I’d really like to spend my time in sports since that is what occupies all of my time as a hobby and a “way of life”.
With that background, and having no idea how college works since neither of my parents have an undergrad degree I was wondering if someone could answer how it works. Can I take part in activities for my favorite sports without having the qualifications probably needed to be part of the huge televised events they have? I really don’t think I’d qualify but I was thinking more like events that aren’t as crucial which are more lax and fun at the same highschool competitive level that I enjoyed so much.
Also, any thoughts on acceptance for my grades? I realize it’s clearly a reach school, but do you think I’m atleast borderline? 760satm, 630satcr, 710sat2, 670satphys. 3.87gpa, devout baptist christian, computer engineering, notre dame is first choice and will definitely attend if accepted, aunt lives near school so travel during holidays is easy, I’m from NJ so I love the snow, applying for FinAid and parents can afford EFC, male, Hispanic. Really interested in what you think about ability to do sports if you can answer that.
Thanks everyone.
