I am just curious to this question because after looking at the posts on this board I am beginning to wonder how difficult it is to get into ND without uber athletic abilities.

So do I need sports to get in? (Or is it a tacit rule that the majority of kids who get in have athletic skills and academic skills?)

Absolutely not-soph son never played a sport in HS, but had high GPA/test scores. He has, however, played a club sport while at ND and is enjoying it very much--when he can participate (lots of studying!).

haha i thought u were both responding to his initial question "Can I still get into ND if I don't play sports but have a high GPA/test scores?" gave me a good laugh

yeah you're fine--I think it's more of a coincidence that mostly athletes apply to ND than the fact that admissions will only accept athletes...

ya, what jvon said

kind of similar to the fact that 85 % of the incoming class if Catholic.... but thats just relative to the applicant pool

I am the only athlete applying from my school.....but # 1, 2, and 4 in the class are applying. They are still better applicants than I am even though they don't play sports.

So dont read that much into it.

All but one of the kids applying from my school are varsity letterman. I don't know if that's helpful, but I think it just shows that the majority of applicants are athletes, thus a majority of students were high school athletes. It's a logical conclusion.

I wouldn't worry about it, especially if you have other activities in which you are strong.

I never played a sport in high school nor do I now. Me=ubernerd.

hah nice PCB

we must be opposite

its kind of weird though... because Im known more for my athletics, and then when people find out that I have some levels of intelligence... it shocks them

stereotypes..psh

At my school, a good portion of our "elite" athletes are also great students. It seems that they're all just hard workers, and their hard work doesn't apply only to sports.

The truth about admissions is you come in during the winter and work out for the admissions office. You have to bench your own weight 20 times and run a 5 minute mile. We only take the best.

^^^Good thing EA decisions are back by the very end of autumn!

don't forget about the squats and power cleans... thank god for my strong legs and perfect clean form or i'd be at u of i right now

"Me=ubernerd"

This is true. :)

And I was never any good at sports either and I'm here now. You should be just fine.

I was hoping you wouldn't read that...

Hahaha, well, it's not like it was a secret. :)
