My daughter received a call this afternoon. She was accepted.
@mp1252 Congratulations to your daughter and the whole family! Notre Dame Office of Undergraduate Admissions managing the waiting list this week as anticipated, hopefully we will be hearing of additional acceptances over the coming days!
Congrats to the latest acceptances…still holding our breath over here…should he reach out to his AO again? He has sent a wait list email and his GC send his grades and an email as well. He is taking steps forward and has found a really good spot at Purdue…but GO IRISH…just sayin
@PopUpZone1921 My suggestion to your son would be to wait and see this week and, in case he won’t be hearing back, to send a personal follow-up message to his AO beginning of next week, just before the response deadline of students admitted from the waiting list end of last/beginning of this week. This way he will keep the dialogue going with his AO and be able to send a reminder at, possibly, just the right time. Of course, as you know, the process of building the ND class of 2023 is nearing its final phases now.
Our DD, now a sophomore engineering student, closely looked at Purdue FYE and was very impressed with the strength and breadth of their engineering program. Either way, your son will be fine!
My son got in!!! He had missed a call yesterday during his lacrosse game (which he didn’t tell me about because he wanted to be sure )But then heard today! We are beyond excited, no words. Hang in there and hopefully there will be more to come!
@bpgmom Excellent - congratulations!
Thank you and thanks for all your help and positive posts!
Is your portal updated or did you get an email. Only got a phone call yesterday but nothing else.
It took over 24 hours for my portal to update and I haven’t gotten the package in the mail yet. @Fathomtodd
Hey! I got off the waitlist during the first round of calls Friday and am super stoked to get off. Apparently, my counselor said that typically waitlists only take people if they are needed to fill spots in the class. Like if they need more business kids, they will take people off the waitlist who are applying for business. Notre Dame might be doing stuff differently though and actually look to your level of passion/interest, because I was offered a spot into the college of arts and letters, even though I originally applied to the Mendoza school of business. So, it’s my guess that they actually chose off the individual and not so much off the spots they are trying to fill.
As to what I did, I just submitted a really heartfelt letter around April 15th directly to the email of my regional admissions counselor, as well as attaching some academic updates (the focus was entirely on my emotional growth in the email and didn’t mention any achievements once). They want everything you send in one package (according to their website), so that is what I did. However, after they emailed me back saying that not many spots will be taken off the waitlist, I also responded saying that if I can’t get off the waitlist, I’d be happy to go into their gateway program. I think this all really showed my interest in the college and my letter showed who I am as a person, and I guess it worked!
Best of luck to everyone else and hope all become happy with where they end up!
@homieswagmonster Congratulations - well done and deserved, welcome home!
As per today, Friday, the first round of waiting list acceptances will have gone out to admitted students, with first response dates due some time mid to end of next week for those admitted a week ago. Next steps will depend on the yield of this group of students, who have paid deposits at other universities/colleges and are now in a position to consider switching their commitment to Notre Dame for the Class of 2023. We will see what happens. Best of luck and success to All!
So no more calls will be made until next week? Do people actually say No? I know my son would not…we just need to get the call. I assume that once the are no longer working the wait list they will let us know that too.
@PopUpZone1921 In this stage of the process Notre Dame will be careful not to overenroll, hence they have been making offers from the waiting list to some of the students who had informed their AO that they will be attending Notre Dame if admitted from the waiting list. Those students, together with their parents, now individually have to decide whether or not to accept their offer of admission, which includes financial aid information if and when FAFSA and CSS information had been submitted to the Office of Financial Aid. Notre Dame will extend additional admission offers if space in the Notre Dame Class of 2023 remains, until all available seats have been filled. There is no need for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions to rush this, they are in a position to take all factors into account, including any expected “summer melt”, while avoiding over-enrollment. This process is not over yet.
All of this makes sense and it sounds like they manage their wait lists very well. Still hoping for a spot
Does anyone know when the second round of waitlist offers would go out? Or should we begin to lose hope after May 15? Is there anything we can do at this point that can help? I applied neuroscience but am thinking I should switch to psych- would that improve my chances at all? And how would I make that change?
@smallgal I would not expect, at this stage of the process, that communicating a change of intended major would have an impact on respective admission chances off the ND waiting list. Having said this, I certainly would suggest to remain in touch with your AO today or tomorrow. Deferred REA, waiting list RD is tough. Very best of luck and success to you!
My son finally heard yesterday and he was not offered a spot at Notre Dame. We both took it surprisingly well. He has been embracing his opportunity at Purdue and I think at this point it would have been hard for him to turn away from that - although I am sure that he would have. Thankfully Purdue gave him the feels just like Notre Dame did so its easy to feel that this was meant to be for him. We appreciate all of the support!!! Will remain fans of the Irish!! I had a Purdue blanket for him that I had been saving so I gave that to him last night…he smiled and snuggled up and said Mom I am happy!! what else can you want at the end of this process?? every school it turns out is a dream school!! Best of luck to all!!
Sounds like you raised a wonderful young man. He will definitely thrive at Purdue.
We are IL residents and if my DS still wants to pursue engineering, he will definitely apply to Purdue and I’m sure he will feel fortunate to have the opportunity to attend a world-class institution if he is accepted.
@PopUpZone1921, I agree with this.^^ it sounds like you’ve raised a great young man. I hope you will come back and tell us about his fantastic year. Go Boilermakers!
