Nov. '09 - SAT Math Level 2

I learned it in precalc

So can someone make a compiled list of the answers?

^ no dibs.

how the hell could someone skip 9 and still make 800? i’m hoping something similarly miraculous will happen for this exam.

stix: how did you get 4.2? To use the law of sines, you need 2 angles

Guys- I took the Math II SATII today directly after the Math 1 and it was a complete and utter disaster =[.

I am an AP Calculus student and very strong in math, but I do NOT work well in pressure situations. Once I got to a question that I had no idea what to do with, I panicked and my confidence was completely diminished. I actually had a full-out panic attack once I got to questions 32-34 where I spent 5-10 minutes stressing and shaking. I settled down at the end but omitted 5 of the last 10 questions. I was considering cancelling my scores, but because of the curve, I’m not sure if I should. I know I omitted 6 or 7, but I may have gotten anywhere from 6 to 12 questions wrong. What should I do?

And also, in terms of questions, I was VERY surprised to see the following topics being mentioned on the test: the ones that Sparknotes insists are “rarely covered” were all on there!!

-Matrices- ***? OMITTED.
-Polar coordinates- OMITTED.
-Vector Multiplication- mid-panic-attack OMIT
-XYZ Plane or Space… clueless OMIT.

Matrices? I don’t remember a question involving matrices

Sorry to overwhelm you guys with input, but the 3rd question or so on machines… it completely baffled me and offset me from the start!

Anybody remember that one? Machine m produces at rate of x and machine n produces slower…

there was vector multiplication?

x(m-60t)

you don’t need two angles for law of sines. why do you think people use law of sines in the first place!?! to either calculate angles or side lenghts. that’s like saying you need three sides of a right triangle to do pythagorean theorem.

sin(42)/BC=sin(x)/6 if you solve for sin(x), it’s greater than 1 meaning that no such angle exists and no triangles can be formed.

@birdy

dont u just add up the rates and then divide the total job by the combined rate?

I hope I did that right…

mabsjenbu123: same, ~27 right?

i think the matrices and vectors were on Math I not on Math II.
This is Math II discussion.

yes the machine one was 1200/45 ~ 27

@headsniped- YOU ARE RIGHT, my friend! I am having the worst day ever, and those tests were horrendous =[

Random question- if I wanted to take another SAT II, like Literature, when could I take it? The last date before the Jan 1st college application deadline is Dec 5th and I’m taking the SAT already that day… can I take the SAT II’s in January or will colleges not look at my scores because they’d be late?

for the one problem that you had to find (x+y)^2 did anyone else get 104?

For the polar coordinate one that goes r = cos (theta)…

The answer is (.5, pi/3), RIGHT???

My friend is pretty much having a screaming argument with me about how the answer should be (1, pi)… except that makes NO SENSE, yet EVERYONE on facebook seems to be agreeing with him…

Except I asked my dad with a PhD in Math, and he agrees with me.

104 is correct

@ concept.

yea it was 104… i wrote 24 damn… i subtracted 2(xy) nOO!!! when i put it on the other side i 4got to switch signs…

For the one where it was:

Let a SQUARE b= a(a+b) -

What values are x=y?

Was it 1-y and 1+y??
