November 2008 SAT Subject Test: Biology

Questions were about those light spectrum. Snake follows . Plants dont absorb . Insects use ___ to predict the place were pollon falls. Highest that human can see.

a) UV light
b) violet
c) green
d) infrad
e) microwaves

I put d, c, e, b

I put d,c,a,c.

im pretty sure the AaBBCc was 4
being ABC, ABc, aBC, aBc
there are no other combintions

Here are a few memorable questions on the test that I struggled with

What was the placenta one (Which of the following are not a use for a placenta)
I think i placed "An endocrine system at birth of child"

What is the way higher plants spread their genetic code
(It was either like spores or endospores or something)

Anyone figure out how the amboas move or whatever?

What is it called when a single celled organism moves towards food?
Learning?

What type of lung system did it represent?
Snake/Amphibian or something?

What does not have a bony skeletal system?
Sharks?

What was the answer to the first bio M problem about cysoine C?
The amino acids sequence?

Also why is there a small portion of small red oaks?
I put animals cuz it said there was no human intervention which made me not want to put hybridization

Another one was what was the key part of an oxid-reduction reaction?
I went chemistry and ignored the biology answers and said it was the transfer of an election from an electron donor to an electron receiver

What is required for gas exchange in ALL living organisms?
I wanted to say gills/lungs but obviously not all living organisms have that so i guessed and said a wet/moist membrane

u were right

i put endocrine for the placenta one too

i put spore for the higher plants question

i put E for that question about the peremecium moving to its food ....idr wut it was....but i think i got it wrong....some people thought it was taxis......or something....idk wut that is....lmao

sharks don't have a bony skeleton

i put amino acid sequance for the first M problem too.....idk tho...i didn't get it either

i put because of the seeds of a larger one for the oak question because it was highly unlikely that like animalls brought 14 seeds to the area......nd.....yeh idk...now that i think about it....it might be the animal thing because it was after like 25 years....

i put wet moist membrane for that one about the gass exchange too

xorogrim,I looked a few up

1) The placenta does act as a temporary endocrine organ, but does NOT send nerve impulses from the mother to the child

2)Directional response to a stimulus is taxis(amoeba question)

3) It was a fish circulatory system (two chambered heart, gill-like gas exchange areas)

4)Sharks do NOT have a bony skeleton

4) I believe gas exchange requires a moist membrane

5) I put that they were carried in by animals too

6) I took eco, but I know that cytochrome-c has to do with amino acid sequence and is a key sign when determining evolutionary similarities

For the placenta one I put nerve impulses because doesn't the placenta release progesterone?

is food considered a stimulus?......because it is not a type of stimulus in my book......unless it goes under chemotaxis

A taxis (plural taxes, pronounced /ˈtæksiːz/) is an innate behavioural response by an organism to a directional stimulus. A taxis differs from a tropism (turning response, often growth towards or away from a stimulus) in that the organism has motility and demonstrates guided movement towards or away from the stimulus.

I got that from a website that sounds like "like my pedia" haha

wow i am confident that i BOMBED that test...ahhhhhhhhhhhh

Well as long as you're not a senior (like me) you get score choice. If not, you shal be condemned to the life of a truck driver or feces scooper(that's what happens to ALL people who don't get 2400 SAT and 800 on SAT II BIO) haha
cheer up kid =)

The plant one that said something like, "Which of these nutrients stunts plants growth"

I placed nitrogen because it raised it the least?

i said oxygen...just because. HA...is that wrong bc it was the control??

and unfortunately, i AM a senior. im going to have good scores in everything but this one test...and therefore will probably end up going to community college hahaha ahhhhhh im so disappointed bc i guessed on so many that i should have left blank...

i didnt think it was oxygen because it was like NO2- PO3- etc. so they contained oxygen (the fertilizers)

Nitrogen limits plant growth the most out of all of the choices

What was the answer to the "what animal are rats closest too".. I put squirrels?

same i put squirrels

Is a -6 approximately an 800?

Unfortunately I believe the curve for biology is harsher. Probably -4 = 800

for the placenta i put the convey co2 and o2 or whatever form the fetus to the mother
i didn think the fetus would transfer gases to the mother
