November 2010 - Biology (E/M)

wait is there even starch in our body, or is that only plants? but whats the diff between hot springs and trop rainforest

For plant hormones, I put choice e.

hot springs are like geysers.

hot springs are much hotter…a tropical rainforest doesn’t hit 80 degrees c.

also is hair correct for reduce wind flow and heat exchange?

does anybody remember the polydactyl question in Bio M section?

^^yes.
btw i despise your username

couldn’t the one with the karyotype be choice A… polyploid female.

I didn’t put A because I had no idea what polyploidy meant but according to Brittanica:

"polyploidy, the condition in which a normally diploid cell or organism acquires one or more additional sets of chromosomes. In other words, the polyploid cell or organism has three or more times the haploid chromosome number. "

so i don’t understand how this is wrong…

For structural polysaccharide, did everyone else put cellulose?

It couldn’t be polyploidy then, because there wasn’t a 23rd chromosome as far as I remember…

There were 3 chromosome 21’s

Constant high levels of estrogen block the LH surge and block ovulation. This is the mechanism by which the birth control pill acts.

This is what it says in my sat kaplan bio book. Doesnt talk about progesterone, it says blocks ovulation so guess thats the answer

Argh, when comes to think of hot springs, I remember that the only organisms live there are archbacteria right? They are extremophiles… But I still wonder that in most of the hot spring the pH should be lower than 7 because of sulfuric compounds. But it’s like pH of 8 in the test so @@.
Anw, dont mind my blah blah blah :D

for the M section… the first part had transformation/translation/replication whatever as choices… did anyone put transformation as one of the answers?

for the birth control pill one…think of how birth control works. A woman continues to release an egg from her ovary every month even if she is taking the pill (thats why the pill doesnt delay the onset of menopause). the blood layer in the uterus just doesn’t form because of the pill… which is why she can’t get pregnant. and since LH is responsible for the blood layer… progesterone has to be the answer, right?

@nritya
you’re thinking about the wrong question… the karyotype one was female down syndrome cuz it was trisonomy-21
the polydactyl question was something like “what percentage of the offspring would have polydactyl (autosomal dominant) if the parents both have it”
I put all the children but not sure…

btw… sorry about my username i just made it on the spot

^^^well at least you didn’t think it was Fahrenheit! Like what the hell was i thinking! it was a science test…blah blah blah :D

wait i dont remember reading a question about ovolution
was it presented in bio m?

or did i glance over it and mess up all subsequent bubbles

@biology- It was all of them, but it was becasue it was autosomal recessive.

it was in m dasheeky. i kept putting my m section answers after 60 and erasing them

@goldy
polydactylity is autosomal dominant (that’s why i was kinda confused)
