And just an addendum to my last message. For the hard questions, never, for the love of the unholy college board, choose the answer that “just looks right”. It’s a trap. Always. If you can’t prove how you got to your result, and have to guess, choose the one that seems slightly unlikely.
@AGoodFloridian Thanks for the advice bro. I really need to up my math game.
Im nervous because it seems as if I have hit a cap in reading and writing. On a good day, I tend to not be able to go over 700 on either Reading or writing. I consistently get 800s on math, but always get unlucky and miss 5 questions on writing and cannot miss less than ten on reading. It is getting frustrating because i try learning from my mistakes but still miss the same amount or worse on the countless practice tests I have done. Any advice would greatly be appreciated.
Hello, I’m a sophomore preparing for my first SAT test, I was just wondering if anyone has any advice about the test in general. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Less than 2 weeks!! Good luck everyone!
@eljefe123 No you didn’t hit a cap. It happens, then you’d see your score rise. I’ve been stuck for 3 months at 600 on critical reading even though I solved 2 sections daily in those three months. Just recently my score improved (650-690 range). You are getting better but you cannot notice this, trust me. Just keep learning from your mistakes and thinking hard about them and how to prevent them, and you will do it!
@freshie18 I don’t believe I can provide good advice on the testing process itself, but I can give advice germane to the material itself. Is that what you want?
What are you guys doing for prep? Personally, I’m going through 28 Math Lessons and PWN the SAT. Any 800 scorers want to recommend a prep book for how they got their score? And also, are there any recent statistics about which vocab lists have the best hit rates?
SATs on SATURDAY!!! Yeah, school was such a hindrance but honestly teh good is we get this whole week off so I’m planning to just study then. Honestly I suck as vocab so cram time it is!!!
how do you people study sat vocab?
@wanderlustgal Just find SAT vocab on Quizlet or get an SAT vocab app.
I haven’t studied any vocabulary from Direct Hits or any other list but I have done over 100 Critical Reading sections. I usually get around 2-5 wrong sentence completions per SAT test (depending on how lucky I am with the words that appear and/or whether I can comprehend what the sentences are asking for). Should I just go over these sections and review the vocab terms that I got wrong? I’m not sure it would be practical to try memorizing any vocabulary 4 days before the test xP. Thanks!
@BethanyD Good to hear from you again Glad you’re improving on your CR. I see were both in the same position now (I also score around 650-690 although I did hit 700 once). What do you think I should do in terms of SAT studying for CR for the next few days. I know I have to crack down on writing since I have done little SAT review for the writing- I did read the whole Erica Meltzer book in two days yesterday-today and after doing a few writing sections I seem to only be making mistakes in the fixing paragraphs section (the one section of the Erica Meltzer book I didn’t read). So I am confident I can master an 800 or close to it with concentrated efforts and test sections for the grammar. However, do you have any suggestions for the essay portion? I don’t know any key examples (besides Animal Farm, Catcher in the Rye, and Of Mice and Men). Is there any tutorial or guide of how to create your own examples on test day based on what essay you get thrown at you? Thanks.
Anybody know what possible topic for the essay be. Not the exact question but if its about like success and failure or ethical choices, etc :)>-
WHOOOOOO’S READY TO CONQUER THE SATssss??? I AMMMMMMM guys it 's liek tomorrow omg eek
Which colleges are you guys intending to apply to?
Keep them in mind whole doing the test, you’re going to get into them
And just a little tip for the essay portion, be sure to have some pre made examples already, they could come in handy if you feel as though you’ve hit a wall.
Reed College, Grinnell, Hamilton and Amherst(and depending on my score, even Princeton, if I dare.). Keep repeating them to myself in between breaks. Calms the nerves, sets the objective straight.
Good luck on the test, everyone!
Good luck to everyone
Think it will be recycled?
@vexatious I don’t think U.S. test takers have ever gotten a recycled test, so the chance is almost nill. I would be happy to be proven wrong though.
Good luck everyone :)!
