***November 2015 SAT (US Only) Thread ***

There’s a possibility -1 could be an 800. Math was hard this time, moreso than the March and May exams which had fairly lenient curves.

Maybe it’s just because this was my first time taking the SAT, but the math seemed very easy to me. I took calculus last year and the ACT sophomore year, and it just seemed easy.

Math did seem easy, I have also taken calculus. However, not everyone has. In fact a majority haven’t taken Calculus yet.

i think what proved to be my downfall in math was a combination of of time management and desperation.
That feeling that you get when you finish two pages of math, completely confident that you aced every question… Then you hear “Five minutes remaining” you shrug it off, turn the page and there are two pages COMPLETELY full of lengthy word problems. For ****s sake that really grinded my gears.

While I looked up at the ceiling trying to regain composure, I couldn’t help but spot another person who happened to be on the same section as me. Her pencil was flat on her desk, she was slumped back on the chair, both of those word problem pages were completely blank. Nothing. She just starred nonchalantly at the clock clicking down. Sad times.

Maybe I was just a little exhausted of math, since I had another math section previous to the one I screwed up on. Time was one of the things I most nailed down before taking the test. In all of the practice tests o had taken, I had at least 12 minutes left over.
As a matter of fact, during the SAT, on ALL other sections besides Math, I had 5-15 minutes left over to calmly look over my answers, re read texts, and just contemplate life in general.

In retrospect… I probably should have divided my energy equally among the sections. My first section was math, I blew through it like a bulldozer. 20 questions, I doubt any of them were wrong. That gave me a sense of “Wow, maybe I might just be lucky that math is forgiving this time around.”

Hahahah, yeah right. Fatal mistake boys, thinking CollegeBoard would actually be merciful!

@mrmaster198 I agree that taking calculus is an advantage, especially with the precalculus and trigonometry aspects. However, I don’t think it is that significant of an advantage, and I’m not sure that I utilized much of what I learned at all.

That’s not the point. The point is that we’ve seen a lot of these problems and have experience in how to deal with it. Calculus is mostly algebra and manipulation.

Sorry to bug you guys
Just wondering if you could give me an estimate of my score.
Math: 2 wrong
Writing: 4-5 wrong Essay around 9-10
Reading: 8 wrong

@akashforcollege

My guess using the lowest scores:

CR. 690
M. 770-760
W. 680
Total 2140-2130

@AGoodFloridian I getchu XD That happened to me on the CR section that turned out to be an experimental. I got really pissed when I flipped the page and found out there were data charts and “Which line best supports the answer to the previous question”. Then i realized it was exp. and slowly calmed down afterwards.

Guys, just checking, if a CR passage has questions like, “Which of the following lines backs up your previous answer”, is it definitely experimental? The section was about something science related, like how the perception of dustbowls has changed.

Yes

@ambitionsquared Yeah, that’s definitely experimental. Don’t stress over it too much. (By the way, thank you for the kind message, I appreciate it man!)

So… What colleges are you all applying to? I was the only one that replied back there hahaha

( @joeweller . I felt that same anger. Few recent events have angered me as much as that one. Every time I’m led to believe that the world is getting better, we’re hit with something like that. While people scream at each other and try to find out who is or isn’t to blame, more innocent people are killed. I have this dreadful feeling that this won’t be the last of these types of acts.)

As far as colleges, four down and five to go! I’ve been accepted to University of Missouri, applied EA to Northeastern and UVA, applied RD to Vanderbilt, and am working on applications to Brown, Columbia, Duke, Georgetown, and Harvard.

When should I apply? Im currently a junior.

@krauser126 The application process really begins in August or September of your senior year if you’re a normal applicant (not an athlete, artist, or musician). The Common App opens up July 1 if I remember right, though. But this year I would focus on getting amazing grades and getting the ACT/SAT scores you want (because you will not have time next year). It’s also good to think about who you are going to want to write your letters of recommendation, and working on your relationships with those teachers and your counselors, maybe making your EC interests or potential major known so that they will have something to write about come October.

Idk whether to study for Dec. SAT or not x( I’ve lost all motivation because I just want my score for Nov. tbh. Should I really study for Dec. now or wait until I get my score and see if I like it or not? If it ends up being a grade I like then I would have wasted my time studying ;[

Could my score get delayed if I didn’t try for the experimental section? I only did 8 out of 24 (ish) questions. I know that was lazy, but I was just so mentally exhausted that I didn’t have the willpower to do an extra section.

honestly im so mentally exhausted from SAT/school that i cant even look forward to anything; its been a tradition for me and my best friend to see the hunger games every year but now its gotten to the point where idec and i’d rather just stay home and catch up on sleep/get some more studying done (trivial ik but im really hating the hectic pace of junior yr)

@krauser126 u could always see ur score and then if u dont like it, register for jan so u have time to study
