Hi, Could you please clarify for me. The deferral notifications mentioned are academic deferrals or MT Deferrals? Thanks

Luv2croon- Thanks for the great description. I am now sold if only because of the swans swimming by the performance arts center! :)

In case there is confusion here, academic acceptance and MT acceptance are separate. When students are notified of MT acceptance, it is always pending academic acceptance. Academic acceptance would happen at the dates specified by Elon for ED, EA, and regular decision.

My 2 friends who got “deferrals” have been accepted academically, but got deferred into the musical theatre program pending the rest of the auditions.

I know early acceptance notifications came out today online (academically) because I got mine.

Alexa, I think you responded to my recent post about Otterbein auditions. Today I came home from work, and found a caller ID from Elon University…so my curiosity got the best of me, and I dialed the number…it went to Catherine McNeela’s voicemail. My daughter auditioned back in the Halloween time slot…and was deferred. Don’t know if this phone call is a good thing (to us a really, really great thing) or not. Don’t want to get hopes up, as there are many auditions remaining on-campus at Elon. So, we anxiously await another phone call, in hopes it may be “the one”. We will still have to wait till March to find out about her academic acceptance. She has a 28 on the ACT with two of the scores being over 30…math and science are her weak points. We overlooked that she needed a writing portion of the ACT, so she did that in Dec. and scored an 11 out of 12, but it put us out of being notified early. She is a very good writer, and has written a couple of one-acts. One was produced at this year’s Tennessee State Thespian Conference, and they recently asked if they could produce it again at next year’s conference. Fingers crossed.

BTW, the call ended up being about the deferral acceptance letter D received…apparently some were misplaced, so D had to send an e-mail confirming she is still interested.

Greetings!

My name is John Yi and I am junior Music Theatre major. I would just like to let you know that I am here to answer any questions you all have pertaining to Elon Music Theatre or Elon in general!

Luv2croon—you can count on any phone call from Cathy to always be a positive call!

And in terms of Academic and Music Theatre acceptance, there is sort of a ‘grey’ area. If a student gets accepted to Music Theatre but deferred from Academic acceptance, they will most likely be fine unless their high school GPA and such is far below average. Furthermore, the Admissions office works with our Music Theatre program when making decisions in March, so there should be no worrying for your child if they get accepted for MT and deferred for academic acceptance.

Hope this helps!
