im almost regretting it! i dont know anyone here, my girlfriend is at my former school, im spending literally 4x the amount per semester to go here. my question is, is going to this school as compared to my last one (western illinois university) going to pay for itself when i get out of school?

is going to a major out of state university worth the massive debt you will rack up?

Let's be blunt. Western Illinois University is not nationally recognized to any extent from what I've seen. UW-Madison is a top 40 school that has name power as well as better academics and grad placement (if that's your goal) than WIU.

But how much more are you paying? And if you're miserable, then nothing should keep you there and you should go where you'll be happy.

Give it a little time. Meet some people! I hear Madison has an awesome student body.

im not going to go back anytime soon, if after the fall semester i still dont like it i might but not anytime soon.

back to the subject...i still dont know what i want to major in either. currently im a double major in exercise science and economics, but i dont know which i want to do more!

in econ there is a lot of money to be made, but in exercise science there is a job that i know i would like. a much better job then i would get if i stick with econ.

Major in what you like. A double major in those two fields sounds fine. I just wouldn't choose one or the other because "exercise science" lacks respect except for those positions where it's required (trainer I guess), while Econ has respect but is not the one you like as much.

Classes haven't even started yet. Wait for a couple of weeks after classes start up before you pass judgment. You'll meet a lot of people the first few weeks of classes, just be outgoing and put on a brave face!

Whether or not your new school will pay off in the long run, at least financially, depends on what you are planning to do when you graduate. I think you made a great upgrade, it may take a while for you to get adjusted though.

Just give Wisconsin a chance. I've heard countless times that your college experience is what you make of it. If your relationship with your gf is meant to be, then it's meant to be.

If I were you I would stay at Wisconsin. Ask yourself what does Western have that Wisconsin doesn't (besides your close friends and gf). Good luck.

I, too, hate Madison. I have been there twice for football games and I grew to hate the town as well as the 30,000 drunk college students all trying to make sure they live up to their title as #1 party school. Get out ASAP.... if you're spending that kind of money you might as well transfer to Michigan.
