Now that it's March 2012

Test scores, leadership, great interview, (I think) great fit with the school

SO many people from my school applying, most of them super qualified

Yup, I applied to others

A lot. It’s probably one of the most-applied-to schools among my friends and the students who do well at my school

I kind of have a three way tie for first place between Yale-Brown-Columbia

Regular? Max of two, min of zero. Early applicants usually have more luck, but I didn’t want to be bound so I probably screwed my chances.

Why WILL you get into Brown? Strong, Ivy-level test scores; smart, sophisticated essays; great letters of rec; strong grades (but not insanely perfect because zero grade inflation at the HS); style fit

Why WON’T you get into Brown? Not perfect grades

Did you apply to any other Ivies, or is Brown your only one? All except Univ of Penn

How many kids do you personally know who applied to Brown too? Two others: they both got admitted in the fall. (One is from his sports team and the boy attends a different HS)

Is Brown your first choice? If not, what school is? All of the Ivies are first choices. Make sense?

How many kids typically get accepted from your school to Brown? One (mostly) or two

Good greats, good testing but lots of real leadership

Who knows…I am quite positive

Others too

3 to 4

Absolutely

Very Rarely

Yes, got the email and got very excited for a short while…

I loved my personal statement to death and I have scores that put me in the range of Brown.

Darn my Asian heritage :frowning: Plus, I haven’t done anything too crazy like find the cure to cancer or anything.

Yale

I think so

It’s definitely up there! But I don’t really want to think about my top choice until I get the results… :)

I’m really not sure… few kids here apply to ivies

I’d like to think I’m a unique applicant (homeschooled) and I have good ECs, but so does everyone…

SAT IIs aren’t stellar (all between 700-750)

Brown, Dartmouth, Cornell, and Harvard and Princeton (the last two just for the heck of it)

Two. One was a couple years older than me and got in but turned it down for a full ride elsewhere, the other is waiting just like me.

YES. I stepped on campus last spring and fell in love.

Well, since I’m homeschooled, you could say we have never gotten any Ivy rejections whatsoever…;)

I didn’t get any email.

My favorite song right now: “Building Steam With a Grain of Salt” by DJ Shadow.

I don’t think I’d handle it well, so I’ve been deflating my expectations. It will help if I get into some of my other top choices.

Haha I really have no idea, geographical advantage? lol

Lots of things, I’m an ORM, average stats, average essays, etc

Penn, Yale, Cornell

Just two other students. One’s international, so she probably won’t have much luck getting in… the other I’m not sure about.

Yes, Brown is my first choice! But Penn is a close second, and my parents would definitely rather me go to Penn. Haha if I’m miraculously lucky enough to get into both…

Absolutely none. My school has never sent a student to Brown before… :</li>

I got the email, but didn’t really think much of it until I saw all the threads…

Haha no idea

Good luck to everyone! 9 more days ahhhh i’m freaking out haha literally spending all my free time on here…

Essays, teacher recs, passion for the school, GPA (prior to this first semester), unique concentration, focus shown in the classes I’ve taken

Mid-year report was bad. I got a C in AP Calc. My interview didn’t go well. It was on the phone at the last minute, was my first, and I completely did not click well with my interviewer. ACT isn’t spectacular (33).

I also applied to Dartmouth.

I know of two.

Yes, definitely. I’ve wanted to go to Brown since 10th grade.

None. My school is a feeder for our top state universities, but OOS is a rarity. Ivies even more so.

I did. It didn’t seem like anything special. Only one of the two others that applied received it though.

I don’t even know. No music probably, just scream and fall on the floor and die. If my reaction to getting into UMiami (when I don’t even want to stay in this state) is indicative of anything… I may actually die haha.

Listen to Who Says by Selena Gomez, lol, while wearing (and wondering what to do with) my Brown sweatshirt. Hope I got into Dartmouth.

Essays, ECs, Interview, good fit, perfect environment, dream school, unique combined interest and untraditional resume

GPA? Mid-Year? My BC Calc midterm was insane

Did apply to two others, but actually Brown is my first choice. SERIOUSLY love it and its the best fit for me… dream school!

Quite a few, I think around 15 other people

OF COURSEEE IT IS

Maybe a few, but my school definitely isn’t a notorious feeder school.

Are you talking about the email that invited you to send them any updates? OK which email?!? Would someone be amazing enough to explain this email to me?

This is tough… ok, Terrible Love (cover) by Birdy… amazing music

aleesha-
I believe the email they’re talking about is the “You might be thinking about how a Brown degree will follow through to Life After Brown…” one. I received it on February 28th, a month before decisions, so who knows… Maybe it does mean something? Doubt it though.

Good test scores, good essays and recs I think…

GPA isn’t exactly the best, and not particularly good ECs… not to mention that Brown has the lowest acceptance rate from my school than any other college >.<

I applied to a few, though I have no hopes of getting in to any

Not that I know of, but on average 57 people apply every year, so it’s likely that I do…

I don’t know yet. I’m not letting myself think about a favorite school, because I’ll just be more disappointed if I don’t get in then.

We average 5 kids every year, so about a 9% acceptance rate

I got the email, but didn’t think anything of it…

This is really tough… Paradise City - Guns ‘N’ Roses

Good luck to everyone, only 9 days left!!! <|[={D>–/—<

does everyone receive the “life after brown” email, and i also received a strange email saying something along the lines of “i hope your enjoying your senior year and we know how hard you’ve worked…blah blah blah.” It didn’t seem to have any particular point…just basically saying hi i guess…seems weird. Dis anyone else get it ?

Truth is: Brown has probably made all the decisions by now. Probably FA is matching to applications. Someone is starting to match our names to the decisions, which will shortly be matched with aid for those accepted. And all that data is out there, waiting for us in 8 days.

^ that’s so scary to know! I feel like it’s all coming together … all of our fates.

You guys should try not to think about it! I was really nervous, then one day when I wasn’t thinking about it, I got a LL!

Hoping financial aid works out for everyone! And admissions!

^ ur probably right! things seem to fall into place when your not obsessing! i need some ways to chill out on the 29th before 5:00pm lol

Unique story, great essays, financial aid email today?, 31 ACT (Not sure if this is negative or positive)!

Rough junior year

Just Brown - can’t beat it!

One other kid - no shot!

First choice by far

No one really ever applies. One got in last year, though! But she also got a full-ride to Harvard…so…haha

My personal essay talked about my mother’s car accident and human error in surgery that left her with with crps unable to perform most tasks, so i’ve had to basically raise my little sis on my own because my dad’s the sole breadwinner; my uncle (fave person in the world!) and role model works at brown and wrote an extra letter of rec about how responsible and independent i am :). Also, I’m biracial (white and african american) whaddup

SAT score 2180, SAT IIs sucked (all between 650-700), I really only have one leadership role (club president of community service LEO club) because even though I play many sports, I’m not especially athletic so I would never become captain and I tend to join extracurriculars to spend time with them and I prefer to be in the background helping them to stand out

Brown, Princeton, Columbia (hopeful but not overconfident about any of these)

Nonee.

YES. I went to work once with my uncle at age 11 and have legitimately been in love ever since. Everyone there is both brilliant and open-minded, something my community honestly lacks (thinking about college is the only thing that’s gotten me through my angsty high school years lolol)

No one from my school has ever got in. EVER. :(

Got both e-mails but like I said, I’m all about being realistic and there are hardly any “sure-shot’s” with Ivy’s so I took them to be completely and utterly meaningless.

Better Days by Breaking Benjamin LOL and then I would call up my friends to watch lotr in my basement and get wasted beyond recognition on some classy-ass zinfandel

I would definitely cry A LOT but I would eventually get over it because I’m pretty resilient like that. However, I think full-blown senioritis might kick in and I’ll finally tell my ******* spanish teacher to go **** himself :)
