Now What?

I have recently completed my West Point App and now what?

Did you receive a nomination? If so, now the fun can begin. For starters, you can check your candidate site a few times a day for status change. The thinking here is that if you check often, you'll be able to force the change. We used to talk about staring at the mailbox in order to will the appointment package into arriving more quickly. I'm not sure if this technique works, but some people swear by it. :)

Seriously, check your website to make sure everything is in. If you have questions contact your MALO or Admissions to see if there is anything else you should do. Keep updating your application. If you receive any awards, win any competitions, etc., they'll want to know.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I got a question? If on the USMA candidate site it saids Nomination Received Code: CA61 and Date posted does that mean I received the nomination? Also how do I update my profile with new activities? Do I tell my counselor to email West Point again?

Congratulations. Yes that means you've received a nomination from someone-possibly a senator. My son's portal shows his nomination as "CA 62" which was from senator Feinstein and CA only has 53 districts.

o nice i was hoping i was nominated. Just waiting for the mail now.

Also by the way does this mean my chance of getting in is safer now?

it means you have a chance to get in now, because if you didn't get the nom...;)

Pet3rxKP - update your file with your Regional commander in the Admissions office. You can't do it online.
Good Luck!

so about how long do i have to wait until i get a response from the academy?

anytime between tomorrow and mid April

while I dont want to hold out false hope... my son was offered a civil prep slot in early June... attended nmmi for a year and is now ranked in the top 50 of the class, and doing well phsically and academically.... so it oculd , could be later than april

Yes it could but generally you will hear "something". Sometimes you just hear that you are on a waiting list etc. There definitely are offers made later on - my daughter got a phone call in mid-April asking if she was interested in prep - and the official offer didn't come through until a few weeks later.
If a candidate has not heard anything at all by early April, give your Regional Commander in Admissions a call.
