My son is interested in pursuing the NROTC Nursing program. Will that impact his chances of getting an NROTC scholarship?

Also, he is not within the Height / Weight parameters we’ve seen published - but is very athletic and physically fit (starting left tackle in football, District Champion last year as a Heavyweight - weighs 260). Are these parameters “hard-and-fast” rules, or do they consider your real physical abilities?

^^^^
It will probably improve his chances. The Navy needs nurses and has a separate option just for nurses on their NROTC application. When is he graduating from HS?

HwtDad, The nursing part will help him but the weight issue will hurt him. There is a LOT of running(for miles),push-ups,sit-ups etc. involved in NROTC. There are physical tests that must be passed. There are times/reps. that they have to make. It’s different than football. Both my S’s played h.s football. S1 (linebacker) got NROTC scholarship. He was/is dedicated to running, lifting, working out.

If your S is serious about NROTC (and his football playing days are over), he should start distance running to shed some pounds and maximize his chances for NROTC scholarship.

A guy interested in nursing should give him an advantage as long as he is fit enough to pass the PFT.
