NSCDA Congressional Colonial Dames Essay Contest

Hi,

I am at tenth grade student and just got an email from the national essay coordinators that I was one of two students from my state to be selected for the Congressional Seminar Essay Contest.

It’s an all expense paid trip for the students that are selected. Is this good experience and stamp for a resume? Two students get picked from every state, so I was wondering if it is very reputable?

Any advice is truly appreciated. Sounds like a fun experience! I want to go:)

it isnt extremely reputable, but it is still impressive. list it on your common app awards section, and explain to your guidance counselor (when you are applying to college, not now) how selective it is so she can contextualize your achievement when she writes your recommendation letter.

@Dartmouth_21 Thanks for the great advice. Will list on the common app awards section and let my guidance counselor know about it(during college admission process).

What about US Senate Youth Program(I’m ineligible as 10th grader, but I’m planning to apply next year)? Is this more reputable than NSCDA Colonial Dames Congressional Seminar?

If you’ve participated/know participants in some of these prestigious national civic engagement camps(all-expense paid), would you able able to let me know what are some prestigious ones to apply for?

Thank you so much for your time:)

isnt that for seniors? it is after you submit your college apps so i dont know how much it’ll help… but you can look for opportunities to volunteer on political campaigns or for your state’s representatives and senators. most people applying for political science programs at colleges will have that sort of experience on their resume. if you aren’t already, try to get involved in your school’s debate/mock trial/model UN team, all colleges know about those and respect achievments in those extracurriculars.

USSYP is for juniors and seniors, so I think I’ll apply. I am part of my school Model UN team, but not mock trial. My plan is write for essay contests such as Voice of Democracy,National Peace Essay Contest, and JFK Profile in Courage… What about the ALA girls nation? Is that a good one?@Dartmouth_21

@Hardworkislife101… all those programs are great! no single program will guarantee you admission, but having them definitely strenghtens your application. just remember that grades and test scores do come first, so make sure those are up to par with the statistics of the schools you want.
