I just got recorded for TV…4 hours ago. We had a Korean TV station (KBC-TV) come to our school for some reason. And they happened to come to the library during my 5th Hour. I do my independent study course there. And I was like…oh, no. I hope they don’t notice me. I cannot speak in front of the cameras or crowds, even though I’m trying my best to get better. I wasn’t mentally prepared for today, I thought. Well, my Korean teacher was with them and she saw me and called me over. I was trying really hard to blend in with my surroundings…put up the perfect act.

Anyway, long story short I said hello to the two guys from the station and had a recorded conversation with my teacher and talked to the camera…does that make sense? I said stuff into the camera. All in Korean. I didn’t know I could come up with Korean while my heart was beating at over 160 bpm. I definitely got my aerobic exercise of the day. And I’m pretty sure most of my Korean was on target. I do know I made one mistake…regrettably.

So I might be on TV someday…that’ll be interesting. It would be more interesting if it got aired in Korea. Haha.

Hey y’all! Russia and India summers started rolling out yesterday! My choices are China, SK, and Russia, so trying not to get all hyped up before I know for sure!
Good luck to everyone!

So nervous! o.o
But, first they’re releasing the summer program finalists, us year-long applicants still have a few weeks until our notifications ><

Hi everyone, I wanted to apply to this program but by the time I had found it, it was too late. I want to apply for next year and I was looking at the eligibility. On the website it said the maximum age is 18 and have to be enrolled in high school. I’m planning to apply for next year but then I would’ve already finished 12th grade and high school by the summer so would I still be eligible??

Sorry, but I don’t think you’d be eligible…
You have to be enrolled in a high school at the time you apply and the maximum age you can be is 18 at the time of departure. Since if you’re selected you’d be attending a high school and most schools aren’t too keen on having adult foreigners among the younger ones
I’m a senior at the moment and this is the last year I could apply.
Maybe I’m wrong, this was just how I interpreted the website. I’d email then just to be sure though! :)

Skieurope:
Oh, I see. I thought that peterpan88 was a senior NOW and that they wanted to apply after they’d already graduated. If they’re a junior now, they’d totally be eligible ^^

Hi guys ^.^ thanks so much for your responses, and yes, I am a junior right now. Yay! I can apply for next year Good luck to those of you that applied for this year!!

Hey everybody. I am currently a junior and I am planning to apply for year programs with NSLI-Y next year (so I will go as a gap year). I am definitely putting Korean as #1, but for my other choices, I really don’t know, Arabic, Mandarin, Hindi, Persian – they all interest me equally. Anyway I will put two of those as #2 and #3, but in case I am not accepted into any of these programs I thought I should apply for AFS Indonesia and AFS Paraguay at the same time because there is less competition and still my passion is mainly to learn languages, and about a culture, not only Korean, but all… Though Korean and Japanese interest me the most and I am currently learning Spanish in school and studying Korean on my own… Next year I will take French 1&2 as well… I love languages. anyway I just wanted to know if this is something I should do, or if I should just deal if I am not accepted to NSLI-Y. This is mainly for people with experience with AFS or NSLI-Y. Hope to hear from you soon-- I know that finalist notifications for 2014/2015 are coming out as I speak! Best of luck to those that applied!! :3
