My friend got notified for Arabic year! I’m literally about to cry
From happiness or impatience?
Both lol
Impatience and sadness lol I also applied Arabic year
I’m super happy for her though!! I knew she would get it
I guess I’m rejected… Oh well
What languages do you think have the most applicants? Which languages are the least popular?
Well Chinese is the most popular, and for that reason it has the most slots, and as for the least popular is Persian and for that reason it has the least slots.
Chinese year long notifications are out! My son is going to Changzhou! This is his 3rd time trying and he has no Chinese experience- good luck everyone.
@SoundCheck1 I am so happy for your son! I know how much he wanted this! Congratulations!!!
I’m going to Beijing for the academic year!!!
I feel you, did you end up hearing?
What are the odds of someone getting their second choice?
Probably pretty low considering they have to give positions to first picks (who will almost certainly take the spot) and alternates.
So, you all are saying that once an applicant has accepted a spot there is no way they could back out. What about a family emergency, illness, or death in the family? Did the accepted applicants have to sign something saying they would attend no matter what?
Once you get a notification that you’ve won the scholarship, you have to confirm your acceptance and sign forms that make the scholarship binding. I’m sure if you get sick before hand, you won’t be forced to go but it’s unlikely.
So the alternates are no longer needed after the date the contracts are due? There must be a provision clause, for emergencies, in which case I’m wondering if they would still call an alternate? Should alternates be on stand by until departure dates have passed? I guess I’m wondering (just out of curiosity) how binding from a legal point of view the contract is. Emergencies do happen.
Yes things do happen but it takes time to get visas and to book travel from the city of origin. I’m sure there is a different cut off date for each program an that things would be handled on a case by case basis.
I’d also like to add that I’m not a lawyer, so I’m just speculating. If you want to be sure you’re getting the right answers, you should send the NSLIY an email.
Any Korea year applicants hear back yet? What’s your prediction for when acceptances/waitlists will come out?
Im an alternate for China AY and it is until June 15th that I will remain an alternate. It will be more likley in the week after contracts are due that most alternates that would be moved up will move up. After the contracts are due… i assume it is unlikeley a finalist drops out unless medical reasons or they are unable to get a visa
