Number of National merit finalist avg. school

at my school, the class that just graduated had 8 semi-finalists, 32 commended and 6 finalists.

i attend a public school in ct

these seem to be some pretty impressive numbers for a class, but i may be wrong. how many students from your school were finalist? What do you think the average is?

In 2004-5, son's HS had 23 of Hawaii's 69 NM Semifinalists + 34 commended out of class of 218 students (private high school--highest number of NMSF in state). Not sure how many NM Finalists, since it's not listed on the on-line profile. It's main competitor has twice as many students & slightly fewer NM Semifinalists.
This school always has a disproportionately large number of NM scholars, particularly for its small size.

my class of 460 - 7 commended, 4 finalists

My class of 536: 2 NM semi-finalists (1 scholar), 1 NA scholar, ~4 commended

That's sad. :(

Last year, the senior class of around 800 at my school had 20+ NMSF and I'm gonna guess something close to that number of finalists because 15/16 make it.

:)

At my school's classes of 700-900 (freshman body almost hit 1000), in the middle of nowhere in southern California, usually only one person is even nominated. Now THAT's sad :(

For the past two years, there have been two, maybe three nominees in each senior class.

...That's it.
