Nursing Admissions for Fall 2019 (HS graduation Spring 2019)

Hi Everyone,

My D is applying to ASU, UA, NAU, Creighton, Cal State Schools (Fullerton, San Marcos, San Diego, Long Beach). The Direct Admission Nursing programs are preferred. She decided not to apply to Univ. of Utah, Drexel, which had very nice programs. We are in Southern California. She is looking for a solid BSN program at a University that can provide a college atmosphere.

Anyone knowledgeable about these schools?
I was curious to learn if ASU classes are all downtown from the first year or are the prerequisite classes held in Tempe?
Do nursing students live in Tempe for 1-2 years and then move downtown?
What is the likelihood of taking the prerequisites at NAU and being able to enter the Nursing program at NAU?
Is Creighton OK for someone who is not religious?
Does San Marcos have a direct admissions program?
If it does not what percentage of the students who take the prereqs there qualify to advance to the Nursing program?

Thank you!!

CSU San Macros is not a direct admit BSN program. You have to take the Nursing core pre-req courses and then apply.

Have you looked at Azusa Pacific for their direct admit Nursing program?

We thought about it, but a neighbor said they had to sign a religious pledge. She was not as excited about staying local. Thank you for the recommendation.

My daughter is in her 2nd year at SDSU in the direct admit nursing program. If I can answer any questions, let me know!

CSU Long Beach isn’t direct entry either (at least it wasn’t last year). Last year when my daughter was accepted for pre-nursing there she was told the acceptance rate to later be admitted to the nursing program was less than 10%. She also was admitted to CSU CI for pre-nursing and received the same information about later acceptance into Nursing. We didn’t apply to CSU SM.

Fullerton has a reputation as a commuter school.

UCI and UCLA are public schools with direct entry BSN but as you can imagine the acceptance rate for direct entry BSN CA public schools is probably 3% or less.

West coast schools you might consider are Gonzaga and Portland University. They both give good merit and are strong programs.

I can’t believe it’s been a year since we went through this!

Have you considered University of San Francisco direct admit program?

Hi ECmotherx2,
Seems like a solid option. I just requested information and looked at their web site. I will share with my D today! Thank you.

Dominican University of CA rounds out the list of CA direct entry nursing programs.

In case you haven’t seen it this link shows a list of direct entry programs in the United States.

Then you can research in more depth. This forum also lists stories from parents of nursing students where folks list what schools they were accepted to and with what stats and how much merit they received.

@ECmotherx2 Apologies for replying here but I couldn’t find an open thread where you have posted on Eckerd. I have a daughter who has been accepted at Eckerd and UTampa, waiting to hear on UMiami. Would love to have an offline chat with you about Eckerd if you are up for that! Thanks for considering.

@researchrn See this thread below for nursing students like yours (college class 2023) where they are getting in for this fall 2019 etc. CA Direct Nursing Program schools have limited spots. ASU nursing students are admitted to the Downtown campus all four years. Good luck on your search.
