Nursing

Hi I have a 3.9 GPA and a 26 on my ACT. I am also volunteering at a hospital thins summer and Special Olympics. I have an A in AP psych and A&P if that matters. what are the chances I could get into the Clemson nursing program? is there a set acceptance rate? And how manny people apply for it? Thanks

Admission to the nursing program at Clemson is very competitive. I think your best plan of action would be to prep more for the ACT and try to bring your score up a few points. My feeling is that they look at “hard numbers” (GPA and test scores) more than honors and activities. It would help if you live in SC.

Direct admission to nursing is a great benefit. Students are not competing against each other during their first 2 years. Instead, the students help each other and they develop a sense of teamwork and camaraderie. Good luck!

Thanks so much. Do you know how many people apply and get in?

I have heard numbers in the range of 1300-1400 applications with a class-size target of around 60-70. Direct admission is a big draw and this allows a high level of selectivity. If the anticipated yield is 50%, then 120-140 applicants would be accepted. I do not know what the actual expected yield is.

From the nursing webpage:

The Nursing Program at Clemson University is targeting an enrolled freshmen class of approximately 40 students, effective beginning Fall 2009 semester. This does make admission to Clemson University School of Nursing extremely competitive. Acceptance letters are extended to more than 40 students, knowing that not all students, who are accepted, will attend Clemson University. For those students who are admitted as Freshmen, there is no re-application process for progression to the upper level nursing courses.

Generally, Admissions considers three criteria:

1) High School class rank
2) High School GPA
3) SAT or ACT scores
Typically, Nursing does not accept students with an SAT score below 1000, or an ACT score below 22.
