NUS vs. IIT Bombay

Oh, and I’ll throw in a picture of one of the cool people who organized it. Damn, I’m jealous now.
https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/30767_514945085200389_1543384852_n.jpg

rofl
what a diplomatic settlement! :D

lolololollololololololollololol!!!:D

If i want to pursue MBA in Harvard or any top US college, where would undergrad be better, IIT-B or NUS?

Oh you’re one of those fake engineers who just wants to make money. Fair enough.

I’m pretty sure getting an MBA has lesser to do with your undergraduate school prestige and more to do with your undergraduate GPA, business achievements, and standardized test scores.

Tesla, i second you.
10char

No offence but why study engineering if you want to go to business school ?
Just confused with the mindset.

Welcome to India. People read Chetan Bhagat here.
[The sacred symbolism of the IIT/IIM brand | Firstpost](The sacred symbolism of the IIT/IIM brand-Ideas News , Firstpost)

@Tesla - As an Indian I can understand that. We cant really blame the OP too because that is the common mindset here. Its the ultimate middle class dream : To go study at IITs and then IIM, the aim all along being a fat pay package.
I really dont understand why study Engg since managing corporate affairs or working for an investment fund should not require any knowledge that is taught in engineering schools.

People should look beyond pay packages too. what about passion, and following your dream !?

If you ask me, you should probably study Economics or Finance if B School is your eventual aim.
But maybe thats just me.

I might have deviated from the topic, but well just wanted to say this.

Tesla can u chance me?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/india/1465522-chance-me-please-need-some-help.html

I am no fake engineer.
I have a mining family business and for that i want to pursue engineering and management!

Oh you have a rich family business and want to do engineering and management? You must be so unique!

Here is a list hot off the press:
(sorry, I couldn’t help it. )

[Rankings | Youth Incorporated Magazine](http://www.youthincmag.com/rankings/?page=listing&id=33)

19 IIT Mumbai

26 National University of Singapore.

Case closed. :D

btw, Cornell is only 9 rungs below Harvard at #1

Yeah you can say that Tesla. I am the only one who is good at studies in my family.
Btw if I can pay the whole way in Stanford, what should be my scores if i do not have any EC’s?

@kusgalsogani: Even if you have a 2400 on the SAT and you’re ranked no.1 at your school, you’ll still probably get rejected from Stanford with no EC’s. Stanford’s one of those colleges that really looks for students who’ve done something brilliant outside the classroom.
They’ve rejected so many students perfect scores over the years.

kushal, why do you say you don’t have any EC? Don’t you have any interest besides studies?
Do you listen to music? How big is your music collection?

Most universities in the US tend to be liberal. Write a sob story about the plight of mine workers in India. Write how they are exploited by uneducated owners to send their kids to expensive colleges abroad. You can also include some hot button environmental issues. That would be a deadly combination. I am sure you have the material to write an authentic story. No? You are in a very enviable position sitting on a mine full of material ready to be exploited for an admission winning essay!

Chubby Cheeks is right. Youth Incorporated Magazine is the most accurate, best ranking system for colleges on planet Earth. It’s extremely trustworthy. In fact, it ranks IIT Mumbai above Carnegie Mellon! I dare you to find another list that does that!

Incidentally, the Youth Incorporated Magazine seems to be published in India, as it used an Indian web site as a resource.

NUS. IIT is good for producing cookie cutter engineers and it’s research output is way too low. NUS gives you a lot of flexibility regarding your degree. (a friend of mine has been switching from CS to ECE to biochem to Chem. engineering for the past two years.). And as someone who has lived in both the US and India, NUS is more widely known abroad.

It is arguable that all modern universities are cookie cutters. The shape of the cookie varies and that’s all.

Here what one cookie has to say:

Of course you can go to the othe other school in Cambridge and get an adulterated version of advaita from Steven Pinker and feel all uppity about it. haha
