I recently received my acceptance from UB. I know I will get an AIR under 2000 in JEE Advanced. Where should I go in case I am not accepted by any other University?
Thank You

Are you trolling?
Definitely IIT

I also think so.
But you if look at their rankings here-> you’ll find Buffalo at #176 andd IIT’s after 350.
<a href=“Best universities in the United States 2022 - University Rankings”>http://www.timeshighereducation.co.uk/world-university-rankings/2013-14/world-ranking/region/north-america
I don’t know if these ranks are a reliable way to compare, but still they differ too much.
And what about higher education opportunities and salary?

Sorry, you’re right.
There are many things to consider here, all of which you’ll have to research yourself, for e.g. if you graduate from Buffalo, chances are very slim for finding employment in the US (due to strict visa regulations), even Harvard and Princeton graduates find themselves without a job if they’re foreigners. However, one thing that Buffalo will provide you is the chance to transfer to a better school, just study hard for 2 yrs and try to transfer to a better college like Harvard or MIT! In terms of salary, if you’re employed in India, surely IIT will beat Buffalo, if you’re employed abroad but by a non American company, then again IIT will beat Buffalo. The only possibility where Buffalo beats IIT is when youi

IMHO your advice is as incorrect as it could be- you are totally wrong. There is no paucity of jobs for Harvard/MIT graduates even if they from India. IIT will give you faaar better opportunities- definately go to IIT. Heck even the brand name of IIT is better than that of SUNY in US (for those that matter, not random pedestrians.)

Please keep telling yourself that if you dream of working in the states,
the reality will come out soon enough when you’re job hunting!

What about Brown vs. IIT?

Ha! Now that requires a little bit of thinking. First off, the real “ivies” in India are only the holy trinity (HYP) and they have immense prestige even here. Now they rival IITs, not any other institute (ivy or otherwise). SO, go to IIT and don’t look back.

Depends on your rank imho. Brown is quite okay-ish- it has a ton of ‘old money’ type of students and is liberal with aid. I would say Top 6 IIT with CS/ELEC/MECH > Brown> Other IIT’s and branches, atleast thats what i would do…

IITs. Rankings are a complete pile of sh** !! IITs suffer because of poor infrastructure, poor research funding, no int’l students on campus, no int’l professors as well etc. It’s the best you can get in India. As for UB-it’s not an ‘elite’ institution. Getting into a good grad school in US with an undergraduate degree from IIT won’t be that difficult- if you do good in IIT as well. Depends on the FA as well- if you have the fund to cover up your expenses and dead-set on attending a uni in US. go to UB. You’ll get a good job here in India if you are an IIT grad. UB is not very well known in India. Visa rules are stringent and no-one can comment on what it’ll be by the time you graduate.
Go with IITs.
As for the Brown vs IIT <a href=“The Ivy League Schools Ranked”>The Ivy League Schools Ranked; Brown is the worst ivy-league school. LOL I know it doesn’t matter, it’s an ivy-league. If you have money go to Brown, but if you think that spending 4 years in US will cause a substantial financial hardship to your family go with IITs. IITs are also considered to be the one of the best engineering schools in the world.
I hope this proves helpful. :)>-

Actually, I would beg to differ, although IITs have very few intls (remember this is a public school) and poor research, IITs suffer because technically they’re not universities, they are what would be called “technical schools” in US like WPI, RPI etc. When it comes to the quality of technical education, no one, I repeat NO ONE can rival IITs.
I would take IITs anytime over any Ivy, except maybe Yale. Going to grad school in US is waaaaay easier if you went to IIT. IIT is the most represented foreign university at top Business Schools (including Harvard).

IIT-D is ranked #212 If I’m not wrong. As far as academics go, it’s superior to 80% of those 211 unis ranked above. Change, add, or remove a criteria used for these rankings, and the whole table will change in a sec. If you are concerned about the reputation of IITs- It’s a big brand name in the technical world and employers know it very well. If you’re getting under 2000 rank, don’t make a stupid decision to turn down that offer for UB. As @peepingtom said- it’s not a university, it’s a specialized institution and it’s harshly penalized for being that. Screw those league tables and rankings- GO TO IIT. Go to a good grad school in US. You’ll save a lot money and still get a better education in India itself.

Oh! Gee, I thought the discussion shifted to IITs vs Brown, UB is definitely no match for IITs, read my first comment! (I accused the guy of trolling!) But I think we would both agree that IITs are better than Brown too!

I love Brown because Emma Watson studied there. :x Slightly biased here
Jokes apart, IIT>> Brown Engineering. Brown is also not an ‘elite’ institution, it’s ranked higher because of the diversity on campus and good funding and infrastructure. IITians are very well-paid too (especially CS students), Brown or in general, ivy-leagues are not at all good for engineering (maybe Cornell and Princeton come close). UB is a joke ! Complete Joke !!

Watch Gossip Girl, Serena van der Woodsen wanted to go to Brown, and it’s quite famous for people like her. When it comes to engineering, only Cornell is somewhat decent, not even Princeton is up to the mark. Kids aspiring to be an engineer go to MIT, Harvey Mudd, WPI, RPI, IIT (Illinois) etc. I think Brown is quite popular among art and design majors (then again, I did mention Serena van der Woodsen didn’t I?)

If IITs had students from 150 countries, millions of research funding, world-class dorms and infrastructure, professors from around the world- it’d have been ranked in the TOP-50 unis in the world !! Yes, TOP-50 !! Even London School of Economics(LSE) is not ranked that high, it doesn’t mean it’s not a good school. But this is generally where the diversity comes into play.

I think we should not beat us up over diversity, IIT is a public school and it was created for the purpose of serving the Indians (not foreigners), it’s hard to get into as it is, I wonder what would happen if they started accepting international applications too. and FYI, IIT is not diverse because of choice, not because of lack of interest from foreigners.
I’d really be surprised if a US educated kid cracked the JEE advanced!

I doubt if Harvard is better than IITs for engineering :))

Guess What?
Harvard doesn’t have an engineering program!

I think it’s called Engineering science and it sucks! But still it’s ranked higher than Brown!!! I wonder who compared IIT to Brown?
