Ok, I'm tired of searching through endless forums and reading stories about how great research/technology/math/science/engineering summer programs are while I'm sitting here thinking all I did was go to NYLC and NYLF...now I know that these are probably at the bottom if we ranked summer camps based on prestige and academic worth, but I did have a ton of fun and met some really great people at these camps

However, now I'm starting to get the feeling that if I ever mentioned these camps to a college and the guy next to me has RSI and TASP and SSP and QWDGHTY&&!@#$% and whatever other amazing camps there are, I'm pretty much doomed

Can anyone help me out?

I don't have my entire summer dedicated to chemistry research or asteroid observation; instead I travel a lot, volunteer a TON, and watch Friends reruns, lol

Someone tell me my summers haven't been wasted...

Your summers weren’t wasted, the only wasted summer is one during which you do absolutely nothing to improve your self. That being said I think NYLF and other programs like it are wastes of money. Going to them won’t hurt you, they just won’t help you any more than doing anything else productive. Very few programs would.

I went to NYLF Med. Sesh 1. I thought it was worthwhile, in terms of life experiences. The speakers were great, and I actually had some pretty in-depth stuff. It’s just basically life knowledge that I think you gain from these camps, and not actual hard core stuff you should put on your applications. Just nice experiences, perspectives… that’s all.

I would put it on your college applications anyways, even though they know about its reputation. It’ll show that you at least did something and that you weren’t hibernating all summer long. (or watching Friends reruns haha. I do that too. I was so sad when the series ended…)

Hi I found this interesting URL that I can share with you …

[Dr. Andres Jimenez (studentsofmed) on Twitter](x.com)

They have a online PreMed program that aids High School age people that are interested in going Medical after graduation …

I did some link investigation on that site and what they have to offer seems like I could have had a V8 had I known about the site earlier … Thanks for letting me in :-)
