NYLF anyone?

Has anyone ever attended a National Youth Leadership Forum? Preferably the forum on medicine? I would love some feedback. I received a nomination and my parents and I are considering sending me to the NYLF/MED this summer in Boston, MA. Any praise/complaints for the program?

I went to the Med forum in Boston and loved it! Not everyone felt the same way about though, they either loved it or hated. You have tog o into it with an open mind, because if you are enthusiastic about it, only then will you reap the rewards.

Dont waste your money on the week long programs that dont give you a grade or college credit, since they usually cost a fortune. Everyone who applies gets in, so its not a bonus on your college apps whatsoever.

however, if you're doing it for the "experience" and fun, then go ahead.

I went to NSLC as an 7th grader (like I said, everyone who applies gets in), and it was really interesting. I went to Cornell Summer college last year however, and it was better and challenging at so many different levels.

Yes, I think that next summer I will be in a college-like program where I can receive credit, but I Am going to Boston this summer, well in 3 weeks, so thanks so much for the input!!!

my older son went to the week long NYLF on law and loved it -- he had fun and learned alot. He didn't go to get credit for for his college app, but to learn more about law as a career. You will have fun and make some new friends.

My son has done HOBY, NYLF and Boys State (all one week programs) and I asked him to rank them based on how interesting they were, what he got out of them and how much fun he had. He ranked HOBY as number 1, followed by NYLF as number 2 and Boys State as number 3.

O, great, thanks!~ I think I will really enjoy the NYLF simply because it is concentrated on the subject of medicine (the one I am attending anyway), and that I will be able to witness firsthand the complex decisions and long road ahead to a career in the medical field.

Have a blast!!

My daughter just came back from the NYLF on Medicine at UCLA. Good insights into the field, but also to a really large campus, and a dab of UCLA. Made some friends too. A high price to pay far a "campus tour". but for Us it was worth it.

bu

Thank you!! I can't wait... We're staying at Babson, but I don't think we'll stay there. We visit hospitals and medical school, etc. lol sounds like a campus tour to me too, but hey, I'm game!!

She really did get quite a bit from it. Her favorite part was the cadavers...

o definately... i'm sure cadavers would be great... so would learning to suture and meeting the top medical professionals.... i'm so excited... 1 and a 1/2 weeks till!!!!!!

She sutured banannas.

I did NYLF on medicine at Georgetown in 2001. Other people didn't like it, but for me, it was a life-changing experience. (I start medical school this fall.)

If you can afford it, and you think you might be interested in medicine as a career, go for it!

I also went to NYLF at UCLA (session 1) this summer! To be honest, all the stuff we did were things that I already kind of knew beforehand. But, it was a great social experience and I met alot of interesting and cool people.
