NYU 2008 Transfer

i dont know!!! i am very interested! haha.

im going to new york in three weeks and want to look around the campus. anyone have an suggestions about how i should do that since they dont really have a campus and dont really give tours?

mandela - Just walk around Greenwhich Village and look for the purple flag with the white torch :) I know you can't go in the dorms unless you are with someone and give the guard your ID. I think the same goes with the classrooms. It is an amazing place, though. It makes me nostalgic just thinking about it.

yea i went into the city yesterday and got to see parts of NYU, well the outside and it is NICE!

oh and how do I apply for financial aid for the the spring?

great, thanks. i have a friend who goes there and so he can probably show me his dorm and maybe a classroom or two. did you go to NYU ianjt?

i think applying for fin. aid is the same way for regular students. you have to fill out the FAFSA and the CCS profile (i think NYU has one...) by the due date. it should all be on the website under admissions.

for the application part that says degree or diploma received, i'm a sophomore so i didnt get a diploma yet so what would i write there?

I am not a student there, mandela. I want to be this spring though :)

well, good luck to you! why do you want to go to nyu, jw?

no answers?

modern, I think you just write that you got a high school diploma.

mandela, I am after the individualized Gallatin program. I really find the ability to approach your studies in a unique and personal way extremely important for me. Also, I am at the controls of my education, not a standardized program written down in a big book some place.

well my adviser said to put down no cause i didn't get one yet from my college. so i did that, and i handed in my application.

now I wait..

I'm applying to NYU Gallatin for Spring '08.

I'm kind of worried because my college GPA is pretty bad.
I was at Rice University for a year, but I did really badly second semester and dropped to 9 hours. my cumulative college GPA is a 2.8

I'm taking a year or two off from Rice but I decided I wanted to apply to NYU for spring because I've always loved Gallatin.

my sats are 2200 (800v, 680m, 720w)
my sat ii's are US history 780, biology 750
my high school gpa was a 4.2 weighted, but the last semester of senior year I got a D for calculus ap and a C in biology ap. I don't know what it is exactly is now, but i still graduated summa cum laude.
AP scores- 5 in english, 5 in US History

I have extenuating circumstances for my second semester in college (I'm writing a letter explaining it), but I'm not sure if they'll accept me with a 2.8 gpa. and my senior year grades are horrible. I dont know what my chances are. what do you think?

june- Impressive high school GPA and test scores; you are obviously an intelligent person capable of a lot. I think that as long as your reasons for the 2.8 are valid and worthy, you will still look like an impressive applicant. That being said, NYU says themselves that the college gpa is easily the most important factor in deciding who is admitted.

Nevertheless, the process is holistic. Do you have any ec's in college? Work experience, volunteer activity, campus involvement, etc.? Can you write a convincing essay and get a good teacher recommendation? Can you show Gallatin that you are a Gallatin student, not someone applying for the sake of applying?

Thanks for your reponse, ianjt.
Does anyone else know of any Gallatin students?

how much does it help to be Persian and female?

I know with public schools in Cali, they dont care, but I dont know about privates, or NYU specifically.

Will this be viewed as a good thing?

academic - are you a Persian international student or of Persian decent? Being of Persian decent places you in the minority and may help your chances of being accepted. That being said, the female-to-male ratio at NYU is something in the neighborhood of 60% female to 40% male, give or take. It has been mentioned by some NYU counselors that being a male is an advantage because they are the minority. I am not sure how much these actually play a role in admissions, but I think that they will be more inclined to accept the best-qualified applicant.

i'm a male korean, will that help me?

i'm iranian-american, born in cali.

its weird that its an advantage. i'm so used to public schools and them not caring that i'm a minority lol. yay to privates...

then again, i'm not URM...like black/hispanic....i'm part of the most educated minority in america.....

:( that probably doesn't help

modern, i read in some college guide book a while ago that being asian can actually hurt your chances because SO many over-qualified and qualified asians apply to college. im half asian and half white, so im not going to say that i am asian since they ask you what you "identify with the most".

dammit! i put down that im asian on my application...

also i got my university ID number from nyu, that meaning the fourth and last email. what do i do now? and should i call to make sure they have everything?

Everyone - minority status (or lack thereof) is not the sole determining factor behind the decision-making process. They will be more inclined to accept the qualified candidate based on their holistic review.

Mandela and Modern, where are you two applying? Also, what year are you? I looked previously and found some stats, but not your years or choices.

FYI- Gallatin, I am a sophomore.
