I also have applied to NYU Tandom School of Engineering. Hoping for Electrical and Computer double major. Has anyone read anything about when they started accepting students last year?
@Popcorn11201
I am paying my tuition with the GI Bill and yellow ribbon programs available to veterans. I am also applying for veteran grants and scholarships.
@MrRobot From what I’ve seen, decisions are more scattered. For instance, last year the Tandon applicants received decisions in late October and throughout November, whereas the CAS applicants heard back in December and January. It may depend on when you submitted the app.
@jonesby
Thanks! From what I have seen, NYU is definitely spotty with when they send out their decisions. I submitted my application mid September, I own a house and am sort of worried about hearing late as houses don’t exactly sell overnight. I appreciate your feedback! I’m hoping for late October early November.
These are my stats:
Applying to Tandon for Electrical/Computer Emgineering from a 4 year college.
College GPA: 3.85
Highschool GPA: 3.2, but did not submit transcripts. I have completed 76 credits currently in college and already graduated with an AA.
Should I submit transcripts from high school?
I’ve taken Chemistry, Physics 1, Calc 1, 2, English 1 and 2, also have credits from military because I had an electrical job.
EC:
Peer Tutroing in Physics, and Calculus
Volunteer:
Special Olympics for 4 years
Various other volunteering
I have two recommendations from professors in my college.
Personal Essay: Very good. (Had two lawyers look it over)
Why Essay: Very Good. (Had a doctorate English professor look it over)
Also I have a question, is there anyway to know your application status to ensure you have everything submitted??
Does anyone know if NYU accepts transfer students on a rolling basis?
I hope that’s the case this year too
Hi all,
I’m an international student studying at a 4-year public school in the west coast and am applying for CAS as a chemistry major as a sophomore in Spring 2017. How high do you think my chance is?
High School GPA: 4.00 (a public school in the Middle East)
College GPA: 3.7 (got some Bs on the courses required to graduate, but got all As for major courses)
Essays: One of the topics I talked about apart from my reasons of transferring and my objective goals was being mixed and growing up in two countries with very contrasting cultures. Had writing tutors and a few teachers look over them.
Letter of Rec: I am not close with any of my professors so I asked my Chemistry TA to write one for me instead. I waived my right to read but I know he wrote about how hardworking I am and how I get involved in many activities.
ECs: I am trilingual and taught myself Korean, traveled to Korea to study the language for 3 weeks at a univiersity. I danced for a cultural night at my university. I was an executive member of hall council at an international dorm. I volunteered to help out at the international students orientation in fall 2016, an am involved in an international peer program. (I am not really confident with my ECs but considering there wasn’t any chance of activity for me to grab when I was in high school since it was very restrictive, I think I did quite a lot in my freshmen year.)
English Proficiency Exam: I took the IELTS but the result hasn’t come out yet but I do not expect it to be lower than 7.0, if I’m lucky, I got 8.0. But most competitive applicants have the score of 7.5.
I’m still waiting on my mid-term report but I’m hoping it would be all As (4 classes).
Good luck to you all!
@MrRobot how did you distinguish between the two essays? I understand one of them is “why NYU” and the personal statement is asking “why do you want to transfer?”
@tsunamiii786 I hope you don’t mind me sharing my opinion.
I had a problem distinguishing between the two as well. But as I started writing the personal essay first, I came to a conclusion that in the personal essay, you write why you chose the major, why you want to transfer from your school and what do you want to do more at the school you’re applying to. You can write little points why you think NYU is good for you but don’t focus on it too much, because you will be focusing on them and elaborating in your WHY NYU essay. You need to do some research about the school then you’ll have so much to write about in your WHY NYU essay. Don’t think about it too much for now, but just start writing if you haven’t yet, and it will hopefully guide you to understand the difference.
@tsunamiii786 I’ll have to respectfully disagree with arastyle here. In your general, “why transfer” essay, DO NOT mention anything about NYU. This essay should specifically be about your reasons for transferring and why your current school/situation is not where you should or want to be. I say don’t write about NYU in the general transfer essay because this essay will be seen by every school you apply to within the academic year (i.e. if you’re applying for spring to NYU but end up not going and decide to apply for fall of next year to another school, then that other school will see NYU in your general transfer essay). You can’t alter your essay at all once you’ve submitted it for 2016-17. So to be safe, leave the “why NYU” essay for that essay only.
I did receive my email today with my Albert info. Although it isn’t heavily updated it does state that they have received my transcripts.
I submitted my application on September 10th.
@jonesby I’m sorry. You’re completely correct. I forgot to take into account that the “why transfer” essay will be seen by other schools as well. That’s because I am only applying to NYU, but I did not state the name, I wrote “your institution/school” instead…
@arastyle No worries at all. Good luck with your application! Hopefully we see each other on campus next semester.
@jonesby Thank you! Good luck to you as well, and I hope so too!
I’ve never seen a school send out so many magazines after applying. Lol I’ve gotten 4 so far and they just keep coming.
@Olivelights has your Albert changed?
For those who already submitted their applications,
Did you already have the mid-term report filled out by your professors and submitted it? I haven’t taken any mid-term yet so my professors will only have homework to evaluate my performance with. Is that okay? My exams are on the last week of October, so it’s very close to the deadline.
@arastyle I don’t remember NYU asking for a midterm report, only the College Report and Secondary School Final Report?
