hey jwblue, this might mean nothing, but i was wondering if you can evaluate my chances at CAS. Thanks

Hey, here is the rundown:

unweighted GPA: 3.6/4.0 rank: 23/315 (top 6-7%)

will complete 8 AP classes by end of senior year including Calculus II at near-by college [dont no if this is considered most rigorous courseload?]

My common app essay is about how my experience on the Alaska trip inspired to establish a club in my school (told by multiple sources that is was extremely good)

Your stats look good, and I think you have a very decent shot. Yes, you are correct, being from NJ will hurt you, due to NYU's (and every other similar college's) quest for geographic diversity, it would be better if you were from say, Iowa, but you're still very competitive in my opinion.

Its hard to quantify. It depends on your grades, personality, and business sense. If you do well at NYU, getting a great wall st. job should not be very difficult.

Thats way too broad of a question Matt....it would almost be more appropriate to ask "what can't I do".

I would say, for starters...check out websites of companies like Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers, Morgan Stanley, Lazard, etc. Also, read the Wall St. Journal, and The Economist. From this, you'll get a better grasp of what goes on in the financial world.

The mention of the companies was in response to Mattistotle's question about what goes on, on wall st. I suggested that he (or you for that matter) check out websites of companies like Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch, etc. for a better idea and an introduction to the world of finance.

What are my chances as a junior transfer to Stern?

Sophomore Journalism at IC
Ithaca College GPA: 3.684 Combined College GPA (took a Calc course through a local college when I was in HS): 3.7
High School GPA: 4.0 u/w
HS Rank: 1st (about 386 graduated, class originally about 500 people)
SAT: M: 720 V: 660
SAT II: MIC: 660 Wr: 620 US History: 600 (these are bad, will they be sent with my SAT I scores because I'd prefer not to send them)?

College ECs: TV and Radio Exp. both on and off camera (I have done a lot too: time ranges but Spring '04 I put probably 10-15 hours per week in), vice chair of IC Republicans (probably leaving this off as I've been advised by some to leave off political related activities)

High School ECs: Three Sport Letterman (Soccer, Swimming, Track), Senior Class Play, NHS

Awards: PA Stock Market Game - member of regional winning team, Quiz Team - county champions, YMCA Long Course Swimming National Qualifier + Participant, High School's Highest score on the National Math Test (all grades) as a 10th grader, Recipient of Pennsylvania Association of School Business Officials Scholarship (first ever from my high school)

I left off some ECs, but I covered the more important ones...and I figured things that I mentioned in awards didn't need to be mentioned in ECs for sake of brevity...

Transfer admissions to NYU are based on the space availability. That being said, Stern is a small school, so I'd say transferring would likely be hard since room for more students is normally scant. Your stats are decent, so you are a competitive applicant, but stats aren't the only thing that matters. Also, I think your reasons for transfer would be important..you should have compelling reasons for transferring. Why, for example, after being a journalism student have you decided to pursue a business education in Stern, and do you have any college courses and/or actitivities that reflect your interest in business?...these will be things the admissions office will consider when judging your app.

Again, your stats are fine, but transfer admission is always tough since its based on space.

Please help me!!!
