Hi JWBLUE,
thanks for your replies. and yea i decided to stick with Gallatin school.
see, i already submitted my application...how can i boost my chances even during the review process?

jwblue,

Could you explain the admissions process for Tisch. I know that 50% is audition and 50% is academic. What does Admissions do? For the Tisch applications, do they put them in piles by Admit/Reject with an extra pile for those who are questionable. Then wait for the audition result and weed through the applications even further.

And could someone with stellar academics be admitted with a so so audition? I would imagine a fantastic audition would help to bolster a so so academic record.

Also, for Early Decision do they cap off with a certain number ( ie 1/3 of the total spots open) Or would they take as many as thought would pass the admissions and audition process. In other words, could they possibly fill all admission spots through early decision. Just wondering how it worked.

i was wondering 1. are first quarter grades involved in the admissions process of early decision applicants? and 2. how significant is legacy status (especially for an ED applicant)?

I'm planning to apply to Stern ED next year, but can I apply to another department like CAS at the same time? If not, does NYU have a system where 2-3 colleges see your application, so that even if I'm rejected by Stern, I can still get into another college like Gallatin or CAS? (It's cos I really, really, want to go to NYU for economics, which can be done in CAS or Stern or prolley Gallatin)...

Wuttup J dub,

I am applying to NYU (Arts and Science), Stevens Tech, and Lehigh all for Biochemistry. I'm wondering if i have set realistic goals or not. The one i really want to go to is NYU, but I know from my credentials that it may be a bit hard. Here are my stats, please give any feedback that you can give.

BTW i have not early decisioned, wanted to but some complications that i rather not get in to.

All applicants are evaluated togather. Int'l apps. are not segregated.

No quotas at all.

See # 1.

Good luck.

klri,

There is no formula where one aspect of your app. is asssigned a weight in importance. For Tisch, someone with a steller talent and only decent academics probably has a better shot than someone with steller academics and a so-so audition it seems to me.

I'm not aware of any caps for early decision.

Good luck.

DJB,

Someone who doesn't get into Stern is in all liklihood not getting into CAS, and probably not into any other NYU school as well. Furthermore, you can't apply to more than one school, and you can only apply to NYU once a year...ie no applying RD after getting rejected ED.

Good luck.

Gingabhman,

I've applied ED so what do you think? I know I'm not a shoe-in but then again I don't think anyone is at NYU. But do I maybe have a chance?

jwblue, you are such a godsend :)

Hey JWBlue....um do you think you could tell me about my chaces? I'm the girl who posted about Gallatin chances. Thanks so much!

I am confident that I will have an exceptional essay.
Also, are SAT II a requirement? If so, for what schools? Thanks.

Jwblue,

A member of the admissions staff called my counselor a couple of days ago to get verification on my ACTs score. When my counselor asked how I was doing in the application process, she was told that I was a strong candidate. Is this something that gets told to all counselors that ask?

Can you please also tell me my chances?

Thank you

I'm applying to the College of Arts and Sciences Regular Decision, and ive been getting a lot of conflicting answers on my chances at NYU. I'd Really appreciate any prediction anyone could offer. Thanks a lot
I go to a private school with pretty tough grading, so im going to give my weighted and unweighted GPA for each year

9th- 3.6 (both unweighted and weighted)

10th- 3.6 (both unweighted and weighted)

11th- 3.3 weighted
3.1 unweighted (as you can see this was my bad year)

12th- first quarter weighted-3.8
unweighted-3.45 (all my classes are either honors or AP)

I think i can pull off a 3.9 for my second quarter

That makes for a cum. unweighted GPA of 3.43 for my first three years
" " " " " weighted GPA of 3.5 " " " " "

SAT SCORE: (this is the combined of the best) 1410 (710 math 700 verbal)
(by the way, is the combined score what truly matters?)

SAT II Scores Math IC 710
Writing 650
Chemistry 690

Thanks

Sopranosweety,

I think you have a solid chance. Your scores and gpa are decent, though being from NJ might hurt you a little.

You said it best yourself, you might not be a shoe in, but you are a very competitive applicant.

Good luck.

RKATC,

If you don't get into one NYU school, you are in all liklihood not getting into another one as all the schools tend to have similar admissions policies.

The Institute of Fine Arts is part of CAS and is not a separate undergrad program.

Good luck.

Thuhuyen,

I haven't heard of them doing this often and with all counselors, though it certainly seems like it would be good news for you.

Paul,

Your SATs are decent, but your GPA is on the low side. Your chances would have been a lot better had you applied ED, but you still have a good chance.

I would say write a stellar essay and get amazing reccs to compensate for the GPA. Perhaps you can try to explain why junior year was so bad for you (personal problems, family issues, etc.). The fact that you go to a competitive private school with tough grading will work in your favor.

Best of luck.
