NYU Bedding/Bath INfo

Can someone familar with NYU tell me if the bedding and bath stuff from NYU's Inter-Residence Hall Council is a good deal. It looks pretty good, but I'd loke opinions from students who bought their stuff.

Thanks.

Err, I don't think IRHC provides bedding & bath... I recall some company sending me a catalog for stuff, but it was expensive relative to Bed Bath & Beyond. Move-in weekend, Bed Bath & Beyond gives like 10-20% discounts to NYU students, so it's probably just easier to buy something then, and it'll probably be nicer.

Just remember - get a mattress pad or an egg crate or even both. It will make a huge difference. If you're in Rubin, don't worry about getting a heavy comforter because it's always 75*+ inside in the winter...

If you're talking about the sheets and towels that NYU can sell you... forget about it. I've heard nothing good about it. You can find extra-long twin sheets at just about any place come late July and August.

The Bed, Bath, and Beyond coupon is nice, but it was never on a convenient day for me. Plus, the store is a total madhouse at that time of year.

I didn't need a mattress pad for my bed, but I like my beds a bit firmer than most. It's really up to you.

Those money hungry......
I'll deal with the crowds at Bed, Bath, and Beyond.

I checked bed Bath and Beyond, and with their 20% off coupon for one item or $5 off a purchase of $15 dollars or more, you save about 3 dollars. There is no 'time limit" on their coupons. They even except expired coupons at the stores in NYC and Long Island. You have to pay sales tax at BB & Beyond, and that is included in the savings. You also don't get the extra pillow casses which then wipes out your $3 dollar savings. Bottom line it is about the same. For BB & Beyond you have to save up a lot of the coupons. They also have very little (at least currently) in way of designs to choose from. They didn't have the longer comforters or longer bed pads, or egg crate pads in longer sizes ether. Maybe as it gets closer to August, they have a bigger selection. I don't know.(I live in NYC.) I don't have a clue as to the quality of thoses sheets. I called (from the mailing) and found out they were only 180 count, which is only fair. Most sheets that size with that count are $19.99. If you want something nicer(220 or 250) they run $29.99-$39.99 at least. 300 count are usually over $40.00. You always get only one pillow case with twin size, so if you need 2 for 2 pillows you are going to have to pay more. Anywhere form about $5.99-$10.99 for an extra 2 casses. They only sell them by twos, so you end up with 3 casses, so for two sets of sheets you will need an one extra set of cases if you are using 2 pillows.
By the way, if you want "Calipso Pink" or "Tangerine" sheets they are on clearance at BB & Beyond (for obvious reasons). They run $16.00 before your discount (if I remember correctly) ...also, only one pillow case.
Note: Shades_ is graduating 2007. He bought his stuff 4 years ago. Could be a different company they used then? Maybe he doesn't remember what he paid 4 years ago? I'm not saying he is wrong, but I've been checking local prices and this deal is not so bad a deal. It is very convient to say the least. I cannot attest to the quality though.

Ahh, but you're not factoring in sales! I just bought a set of full size 420 tc sheets on sale for $40, and the twin set was ~$20. You can definitely find something with better quality, though admittedly it won't be quite as convenient. Still, you're going to be sleeping on them for at least a year, so why not get ones that you know are nice? If I had to do it over again, I would've spent more and gotten nicer bedding at the beginning when I was still using my parents' money, lol.

I also recall the BB&BY discount for NYU students being 10-20% off the entire purchase. It's not the same as the coupon thing they send out in the mail.

Do not buy those sheets! Everyone I know who bought them lived to regret it. The quality is awful. Really awful. As it gets closer to Sept., lots of stores get in huge supplies of the extra-long sheets, at good prices. You won't have a problem finding them at BB&B, at J.C. Penney, at Wal-Mart, etc.

Thanks for the info. I'll keep my eyes open for a sale at the end of summer.
