I was just accepted as a junior to CAS at NYU and to UNC. I want to go into I-Banking after I graduate and I am wondering which program will be best.

Since at NYU I would be competing with Sternies for internships/jobs, would NYU still be a better choice?

Although I transfer students cannot go directly into Kenan-Flagler, assuming I am accepted after a semester at UNC, which school would be better for getting into corporate finance? anyone with any experience? thanks guys!

I'm currently a CAS student and I intern at a boutique investment bank. The advantage of NYU and New York is that you'll be able to get internships in the school year and NYU does pretty good as far as placing its students into Wall Street firms. I don't see how UNC will give you any edge over NYU unless you are in-state and only paying a fraction of the price.

ABirch, may I ask how you were able to get that internship? Was it through NYU and a recruiter for the I-Bank? that sounds great though thank you very much for the advice.

Iunno....I'd rank UNC higher in terms of prestige

but would being in North Carolina prevent me from getting internships not only at buldge bracket banks like citi and goldman, but also at boutique i-banks? right now i am leaning towards NYU...

well...UMich is in...uhh....Michigan...and they still manage to send a VERY sizable portion of their graduating class at Ross to top ibanks in NYC

yes but Ross is arguably a better program than Kenan-Flagler and more heavily recruited...just to add fuel to the fire...I have spoken with professors, a trader at Lehman Bros, and an I-banker at Citi...all have said that while Kenan-Flagler is arguably better, NYU gives access to boutique investment banks that would not have come to recruit at UNC. Also I have heard that UNC tends to focus on their MBA program and undergrads are usually taught by TAs. anyone else hear anything different? It really is kind of a tough decision and I am interested in hearing everyones opinion...anyone going through the same (similar) thing?

Ross is a better program than UNC hands down, lol, don't even need to argue.

Hmm...I mean...granted....being in NYC really does give you the lead on boutique investment banking internships. However, if you really want companies like Goldman Sachs, I think UNC will be better. They've always ranked pretty high?

Also, at NYU you will have some MAD competition with Stern kids. 2200 Stern kids all trying for internships. I also find NYU's price tag a little high. Stern kids generally graduate with higher job salaries, so that somewhat makes up for it, but I don't know if paying 47k is worthwhile to go to CAS.

So I suppose the question really is whether I want to swing for the fences and get the bludge-bracket internship at UNC or if I am going to play it safe, try to get into a boutique ibank at NYU...I don't really mind the competition with the Stern kids, I think my resume speaks for itself...I'm just wondering if recruiters really look down on CAS. UNC isn't on all of the buldge bracket ibank's recruiting calendars either...just their MBA program...I think NYU is the better choice?
