NYU Economics

Hi, I am currently a high school senior and will be attending NYU in the fall, majoring in economics. I want to go into I-banking, so my question is that do NYU degrees usually land students a good job with i-banking firms? Reading the featured discussion thread, is seems that most undergrads that get into i-banking firms come from the ivy league.

Secondly, could I major in something in political science and still do i-banking?

Any help woild be great.

bump bump bump

I woudd really like to know about the political science question.

bump bump bump

are you in stern or cas?

I think NYU has great placememt in I-Banking as well as other finance positions.

If you are in Stern, you can take a minor in CAS - did you know that? So you could major in economics in Stern and get a minor in something from CAS. If you are in CAS, I don't think you could do the opposite. CAS does not seem to have a department called political science but it does have "politics" which is probably the same thing. My feeble memory recalls that the Econ profs in CAS are one and the same with Stern. Maybe my S told me that.

i am 99% sure that Stern economics professors are different than CAS. CAS employs their own Econ professor. Stern students take macro and micro(basic course) with CAS professors. either way, both econ department have a very accomplished faculty. CAS economics is more theoretical atleast in the initial stages, while Stern economics is more applicable to the business environment.

Yeah I am in CAS.

I believe you are correct Legionaire. I think my S is taking macro right now so it is possible he has a CAS professor. There is some crossover if you look at the faculty lists. There are some Adjunct faculty listed on the CAS list who are from Stern and there are one or two names on the Stern list that are also on the CAS list but you are correct in saying that both have very accomplished faculty.
