NYU ED1 Class of 2017 Discussion Thread

hi so i am FREAKING out. im applying ED1 and nyu is literally my DREAM school. I really want to be in Gallatin, but I feel that I would have a better shot applying to LSP. if anyone could comment on my chances that would be so helpful!!

gpa: 3.76 (out of 4.0, weighted tho)
SAT: 1880 (waiting for retake scores TOMORROW)

good recs great essay…… and amazing supplements for LSP (Gallatin ones arent as good bc I havent worked on them too hard but I will def if I apply)

ECS: precollege program at NYU over summer
National Honors Society
president and founder of Food For Thought club with lots of volunteer hours
hundreds of volunteer hours for NHS and on my own
week long service trip through YSOP to D.C.
4 years varsity tennis
5 years town team tennis
5 years youth group member with lots of service hours
Mock Trial Team
I feel like I am missing some E.C. but those are the general ones

white, girl from CT in a VERY good public high school

junior courses: AP Lang and Comp (A), AP USH (A), Physics Honors (B+), Algerbra (A-), Fashion and Textiles (A-), French Honors (PASS- took P/F which was HORRIBLE idea ik)

senior year courses (grades as of now… idk if NYU sees them tho for ed1): AP Lit (B or B+ not sure), AP MEH (B), AP Gov (A-), French Honors 60 (B+ but SOO close to an A- so probs A-), Pre Calc (B+, so close to A- tho), Fashion (A-), and Computers info systems (to graduate, passing)

So ya basically I want to be in Gallatin to pursue fashion design and marketing… also art combined with sustainability. I just want to go to NYU so badly that I am willing to go through LSP to get into Gallatin junior year. I dont really care that much. Should I def apply to LSP, or do I have any chance at all in Gallatin???

I have a small dilemma…
My NYU app is finished. I could send it right now…except one thing. My counselor is lazy and hasn’t bothered to write my recommendation yet. I have one teacher that has already submitted his rec. Should I wait for this counselor rec, or is NYU fine with just one teacher rec?
The counselor rec isn’t even worth waiting for tbh…but do I need it?

@magfri heyyyyy i’m from CT too!
I think you have a chance at Gallatin, if your SAT scores go up. If not, I think you would be safer applying to LSP

So, I’m a bit confused right now.

On the Common App, it says:
“If you are an applicant to our campus in New York and you have any interest in being considered for the Core Program in Liberal Studies’ either as a primary or alternate program of interest, continue this section. If not, you may skip to Section Five.”

I plan on applying ED1 for CAS. However, I’m also interested in LSP. I am allowed to fill out the LSP section as an alternate program of interest, correct?

Just making sure, because I’m feeling pretty paranoid right now.

Hi I’m really stressing out here so can you guys give me some advice?
I was planning to apply to tisch film for ED
However I got my sat scores today and my score( super score ) only adds up to a 1740
GPA 3.9
I have a good portfolio, resume and a essay ( I think…)
I went to a art high school so I’m pretty confident with my portfolio…
What should I do… Should I just retake the SAT and apply later for RD
or should I just apply for ED (like I was planning to)
I heard that you get a better chance in ED for getting accepted… but I hate my SAT…
arghhhhhhh I’m so confused…
help me guys

Can anyone chance for Journalism, EDI? Also applied for LSP as well (would love to do either New York or London for LSP) I’m an Asian female from an upper middle class area in Southern California.

Bump. Anyone else nervous? I’m planning on submitting my application on the 30th. But… when I send my SAT scores through College Board they will not arrive before Nov 1st, so I’m nervous about that. I should have sent them the day I got my score… -_-

BTW, hope everyone is doing okay on the East Coast.

I’m nervous, but I submitted my app a while ago, so the waiting just sucks. Even if I’m rejected, I can’t wait until December 15th… It really really sucks to know that they have it, and if they wanted to, could look at it today and give me a decision, but they won’t.
Don’t forget about CSS-PROFILE, everyone! Due on November 15…

& stay safe if you’re on the east coast!

Hi guys I wish everyone the best of luck with their applications. What did everyone write about for their “What intrigues you?” prompt? I am applying to Stern so would it be more appropriate to write about a book that sparked my interest in finance or could I write about music I enjoy?

I also thought about writing about experiences with my grandfather who was a successful business man but that isn’t really “one work of art, scientific achievement, piece of literature, method of communication, or place in the world (a film, book, performance, website, event, location, etc.)”.

Any advice?

@nvwls23 Hi! For my “what intrigues you?” essay, I wrote about the Dead Sea in Israel. I started out talking about how the body of water in itself is mesmerizing, but it got me thinking about the conflict in the middle east, with the West Bank being so close. I talked about the major juxtaposition between the healing water and the destruction of the conflict.
TLDR; essay about the dead sea turns into essay about the juxtaposition between a serene land and warfare.

I’m SO nervous. I want to get in so bad!!

Hi everyone!
I hope this message finds you all well. My name is Nicola, I am a senior at NYU and the features editor at our daily student newspaper, the Washington Square News. As some of you probably know, the NYU community was hit pretty hard by Hurricane Sandy. At WSN, we are working on extensive coverage of how it affected NYU. I am working on a story about early decision admissions. The deadline has been extended to Nov. 5 from Nov. 1. If this affected anyone, and you are willing to do an email interview and possibly be quoted in an article, please let me know! I am looking for students who were concerned about power outages affecting their application before the deadline was changed, have been affected by deadline change in any way. Just a heads up also, we will need your full name, age and hometown. If you are interested or know someone who is, please send me a direct message. Thank you all so much and best of luck with your applications!

Best,

Nicola

Did anyone receive their NYU Application ID yet? I applied Sunday but I still haven’t gotten anything aside from the Common Application ID/ acknowledgement from the Common App that I’ve paid for fees for the application.

I applied Monday and have not received a NYU application ID yet. NYU is probably busy dealing with the aftermath of the hurricane though?

vyperr & HelloParis–
I applied pretty early but didn’t receive the application acknowledgement & application ID until a few weeks later. I wouldn’t worry too much, but you can always call/email.

My student forms say complete, but there is nothing next to the ED Agreement- Counselor Component section… Is that the way it is for everyone else? I think its because I’m using Naviance but I’m not sure My School Report, teacher recommendations, ED Agreement- Parent/ Legal Guardian Component all say Assigned (10/27/2012) and Downloaded by College. The Common App even says my school forms are complete. I’m confused.
