NYU ED1 Class of 2017 Discussion Thread

They downloaded my app on November 6th, me being on the east coast during Sandy. Hopefully it does have something to do with the date.

@nyu427 i didnā€™t apply for financial aid and have the same thing! it doesnā€™t make any sense and itā€™s freaking me out.

does the common app tell everyone that they downloaded your supplement specifically or just your application? mine says downloaded my application but not my supplement and it freaked me out! i called the nyu rep in my area and she said they had everything they needed from me. does this mean they havent even read my supplement yet and thereā€™s only 8 days to go? ahhhh

@nyu427 I applied to LSP because I genuinely want to get into the program, so Iā€™d love to be accepted. I guess the change is bad for people who want to avoid LSP at all costs. NYU already said in an email that the LSP change just means that theyā€™re considering you for whatever you put on your application (in my case, I also applied for LSP in my app)

It seems like some people are getting different years on their FA pageā€¦ some have 2013 while some have 2014.

maybe those of us who didnā€™t apply for financial aid are getting 2014, since we may consider applying for it in 2014 if we get accepted?

I called up admissions, according to the woman who I spoke to, if your program is listed as Liberal Studies, it does not necessarily mean that youā€™ve been rejected from your initial school. It just means that you put on your application that you would like to be considered, and that said process is currently taking place.

hi guys! i applied to stern and my description changed from core program to general business does that mean anything ??

Iā€™m pretty sure core program and business studies are the same thing. There are only two different business programs, Business Core and BPE.

@AA2013 interestingā€¦I applied for LSP in addition to my original intended major in Steinhardt but mine never changed

To anyone asking ā€œis this a good signā€ ā€œis this a bad signā€ whatever, no one on here REALLY knows. In most cases, itā€™s neither. For the financial aid thing, I doubt it means anything regarding admissions, though it seems citizenship/residency has something to do with it. After youā€™re accepted, you can worry about if it affects financial aid.
As for changing to LSP, according to the few people that have called/emailed, it looks like it just means you are being considered for LSP, not that you arenā€™t being considered for your initial program as well. So it isnā€™t a glitch, but it doesnā€™t mean anything.
Just to summarize: NOTHING MEANS ANYTHING. :D

to all of yā€™all who are nervous (including myself because iā€™m completely freaked out), here is an inspirational videoā€¦ [IMDABES - YouTube](<a href=ā€œIMDABES - YouTubeā€>IMDABES - YouTube)

@leggggy I applied for financial aid and mine says 2014. Itā€™s my understanding though that the people with 2013 have 2013 AND 2014. To be honest, I donā€™t think itā€™s looking good for me since mine only has 2014 and not 2013. I know that people are saying that we shouldnā€™t read into it, but I feel like thatā€™s the diplomatic way of stating things. But then again if this is now being stated as something that you are still being considered for all the programs you applied to, why would they say last year that it was a glitch. Maybe if yours changed to LSP, that means that you are likely going to be admitted into LSP, as that seems to be the trend from last year, and admissions said it was a glitch to quell people like us. Just a thought/unlikely conspiracy.

@HelloParis When I spoke to admissions, they said that it says ā€˜2014ā€™ because it would be the 2013-2014 school year. Apparently it makes no difference which year it says on your Albert account

So is it ā€œsafeā€ to say that itā€™s not looking good at all for those that still have the ā€œfinancial aid unavailable?ā€

@softballstar did admissions tell you whether having a financial aid post on albert meant anything regarding acceptances

did they say that it meant anything towards being accepted or not?

After thinking it all over, I honestly think that the financial aid page means nothing. Does anyone know if you get deferred to LSP you can still get financial aid?

@allisonjade did you apply for financial aid

hello all, i am just gonna speculate. i cant imagine a large institution like nyu having glitches two years in a row and i dont think they would post messages on the fin aid or event screens randomly. they get so many applications that they probably have to make these screens changes gradually, rather than have some poor person inputting this stuff for hundreds of students, on the evening of dec 17th! so having said that, for those you who have seen screen changes, i think (well i actually pray!) its a signā€¦for those of you who have not yet seen changes, there is still hope!!! cos there are 8 more days to go for your screens to be changed!

@nyu2017 you bring up a good point. If there was just one massive change on the 17th or 18th, this could be either really time consuming, or better yet risk a system crash. It does make sense that there would be a gradual change.

@helloparis sorry for asking so many questions, but does your FA screen have a row for 2014 AND 2013? Mine just has the 2014 so far. And I did apply for financial aid. Sorry, weā€™re in such a similar situation that I just have to ask haha.
