NYU ED1 Class of 2017 Discussion Thread

Ok thanks for the help!

Someone chance me for Stern ED!
SAT : 800M/750W/670CR (yeah i screwed up the CR…)
SAT2: Math2 800 / USH 750
GPA : 3.9/4.0
EC : Ultimate Frisbee 3 years - varsity/state champion / Orchestra Band 3 years
1 st chair clarinet for 3 years / LG summer internship / clarinet tutoring
NHS / Beta Club / some other clubs
Ethnicity : asian (international student)

someone please chance me!

Good numbers for Stern. I’d say decent shot overall. EC’s seem a bit on the weak side, with little leadership experience (1st chair clarinet in a school orchestra is hardly notable, and idk if ultimate frisbee is taken all that seriously as a sport).

does NYU only look at unweighted GPA’s?

I’m pretty sure, like any other college, they look at everything.

This thread really died down over the last week… is everyone back in school? What are your schedules?
Heres mine:
1-- AP Environmental Science
2-- Journalism
3-- AP Government
4-- French II
5-- AP Literature
6-- AP World History
7-- AP Psychology
8-- Seminar (a full period homeroom to do homework and stuff)

@tniemann Your schedule sounds better then mine! :stuck_out_tongue: I start school the 29th (bleh) and haven’t even had time to work on the Common App because of AP summer work!

1 - Economics
2 - AP Pyschology
3 - Web-Design
4 - AP English Lit
5 - Digital Photography
6 - Anatomy & Physiology
7 - AP Government
8 - Finite Math
9 - Free Period

(I only took two APs junior year, APUSH & English Language)

I think my schedule is worse. I’m very concerned I’m not taking a rigorous enough courseload. (No 4th year of science, eek)

Yearbook

AP Econ

Dual Enrolled College Western Literature and Thought

Lunch

PE Leader

AP Calc AB

Journalism

AP Gov

The only reason I’m taking yearbook is because I am up for journalist of the year and I want to build my portfolio in addition to my work in journalism. Also, the only reason I am a PE Leader and am not taking another AP class is because the state I live in requires 4 years of PE.

I’m not taking a fourth year of science. Is my schedule too easy in comparison to all of the other applicants???

@Correkid No I think your schedule is fine! At least you are taking APs senior year (there are some at my school aren’t even taking at all senior year) and AP Econ/Calc/Gov are challenging subjects (in my opinion anyway :P)

D: FOUR years of P.E? I would be dead… Good-luck! Our school ony requires two years, but I took dance sophomore year in place of P.E.

Good-luck to everyone working on the Common App/starting senior year!

4 years of PE seems like a lot. We have 2, including a semester of health and a semester of Nutrition.

I plan to apply ED1 to BPE.
What are my chances?

Would you recommend I send my SAT II scores?

If financial aid wasn’t an issue, I would apply ED. :(

Good luck to you all!

@TheSolution- you can deny an admissions offer from NYU if the financial aid package would ā€œput too much financial strain on yourself or your familyā€ according to the person at the campus tour. So you can still apply and reject an admissions offer if you want.

I can’t understand how americans have so many classes!
In Senior Year, I have

English Language (Linguistics)

French

Global Politics

Further Mathematics

Solo Music Performance

and I completed Swedish last year.

…?

I have some questions for any kind soul who is willing to answer!!

when i was filling out the common app it asked me if i would consider enrollment at other schools at NYU if i didn’t get into tisch. i thought you could only apply to one school, and it still says that on the website. so confused…
also, does your art teacher send in a recommendation separately to tisch after all the other common app stuff is done? the website says you can’t but someone who applied to tisch last year and got in had her art rec sent directly to them.

and finally, any tips on what you should say/shouldn’t say in the supplement? i feel like i have some really good material but at the same time when i’m discussing why i want to go to nyu i would hate to be cliche.

leggggy- I can only answer your first question, but here it is:
You can only apply to one school directly, but if they can’t offer you admission to that school (not quite up to par) they might offer you admission to another school rather than flat-out rejecting you. You aren’t able to choose the other school, and they won’t offer you admission to both.

@tniemann thanks! doesnt this cause an issue if i’m applying ED to tisch, but then they decide they want me to go to steinhardt so i’m technically bound to go there? do you know if it’s a bad idea to say you don’t want to be considered for other schools?

If you’re accepted to a school other than the one you specifically chose, it is no longer binding. If you apply to Tisch, they accept you to Steinhardt, you can still say no.
That’s why I checked the box anyway. Even though I probably won’t want to go to another school, I’ve already paid the application fee and it won’t be binding, so you might as well say yes.

AhhhhhI haven’t posted in here for a while. Hi everyone, I’m the creator of this thread. Lol

I start school Sept 4th…
I’ve devoted this day to finishing up AP summer work!
I have started the commonapp, but I’m barely half way finished. I think all of your schedules are great…I feel as though my senior year sched is kind of lacking.

So junior year I took 3 APS (APUSH, AP Bio, and AP Calc AB)

This year I’m taking

AP Macroeconomics (Half year course- Semester 1)
Humanities H (Half year course- Semester 1)
AP Eng Lit
AP Stats (I’ve run out of maths to take besides this one…took calc last year)
Spanish VI H
E-Commerce H
AP Environmental Science

Anyone else who is taking AP Enviro this year should PM me, we can share notes and help each other out! I think all curriculum is fairly similar if not identical for this class.

Actually, anyone taking the same APs as me should PM me. We can exchange contacts or whatever and work together. I would be more than willing to exchange notes, help plan essays, etc together.
