Steinhardt is a little more lenient with grades and scores. If other people in your school have gotten into NYU, find out what their GPA and standardized test scores were. That’ll give you a better idea of your chances. I don’t know anything about your school, but upward trends help and maybe explain the grades on the application.

Found out in mid-July.

Got a ton of papers about life at nyu today, one was about ordering bedding and stuff from some school sponsored site. Do you recommend buying your own or ordering it from them?

I don’t know about this source in particular, but every school sends those out. From what I’ve heard, they’re incredibly scratchy and not great quality. buy from Target, Domestications, Bed Bath and Beyond. Personally, I like to wash the sheets and towels at home first but if you can’t due to distance, it’s probably just fine.

My friend used the service last year and said the quality was terrible. Most of the stuff isn’t necessary either. Just go to Target and get your own.

I know I’ve asked tons of questions on this thread and I may or may not start to get annoying but here’s another one.

I seriously am feeling so overwhelmed over college and I haven’t even started it. so pretty much I got roped by my mother into doing the Steinhardt honors program. i just got an e-mail today which makes it seem like there is a lot of work and commitment involved (especially through these weekly seminars). Also I’ll be living in Goddard and I know they have a lot of requirements like service hours and community projects and whatnot, which takes up another chunk of time. And my parents are constantly on me telling me how I really do need to get a work-study job to you know, cover the alarmingly high costs of going to college. They also say if I don’t do well in my classes I’ll lose all my scholarships and will have to transfer back home and I can’t let that happen. I’m so worried about how I’ll balance everything with my classes especially starting off right away when I’m just starting to adjust myself to the school and the city. I don’t want to miss out on having an actual social life and fun college experience, as childish as it sounds.

I did all of these things in high school, but this isn’t high school anymore and I’m already so stressed out. My whole life school was really easy and I’m just starting to realize that at a school like NYU, it’ll be a challenge to do well in classes. I also really had my heart set on doing an internship sometime and a minor.

I guess I’m just asking for some advice and reassurance that I’m overreacting and all of this is doable and I will have a wonderful freshman year lol… Instead of feeling excited I just feel reluctant and overwhelmed by college already. And it hasn’t even started!!

I want to take a course that requires a certain score on an AP test (which I an sure I got), but these scores come out long after course selection. What should I do?

Hi. Class registration starts tomorrow and I was wondering what classes seem to fill up the fastest. Around 9 am, would you say that most if the classes are already filled. Like, do you think that a psychology class would be full by the time 9 am rolls around? Thanks!

Never order anything from NYU. Materials, bedding, insurance, anything… The quality is sub-par and often overpriced (despite saying there’s student discounts). I’d suggest one of the typical, inexpensive places: Bed Bath & Beyond, IKEA, Target, etc…

I can totally understand the overwhelming feeling that comes over kids when college is right around the corner. It takes a little adjusting to find that right balance, but in the end you’ll be able to know what’s right for you and what’s not. If you’re doing too much in too little time, drop something. Experiment a bit. In a nutshell, pick and choose what you want to do in the time you have and don’t about all that other stuff at once (scholarships, work-study, internships, minor). Take it all in stride.

@Smigone

This happens to everyone. The academic advisors ask you if you think you got a 4 or 5 to fulfill the requirement. If you think so, they’ll put you down. If not, they let you choose another class.

@cbound12

Last year we didn’t have to do it by ourselves. The advisors did it for us, so it’s a little odd when you look at the registration at first. MAP classes are usually the first to go. 101-level major classes may go quickly as well. Hopefully you have a good registration time.

Dreamer2012,
I am a parent and can totally relate to how you feel. Being in Goddard is going to be a good expErience. It is a very close knit community and I have never heard of anyone complaining about it. Some of the best long lasting relationships have formed. I stressed over my daughter not starting any work study jobs in freshman yr because we as parents were stressed about the costs, but in the end she did not work until junior year. She was slightly overwhelmed adjusting to college life and time managment and I actually wanted her to concentrate on her grades and her well being. Take one step at a time. You will enjoy your time there and you will find work when the time is right. Relax and enjoy your summer. You will anage and your parents will adjust as well.

Thanks jackhammer and milkandsugar! You guys are great :)

So um, how easy is it exactly to avoid people you don’t like? There was a girl I grew up with who I parted ways with in high school who I really just want to get rid of but low and behold she’s going to Tisch! which just really killed any excitement I had left for college. I want to be mature but I can’t help feeling somewhat annoyed. I guess that’s one of the benefits of going to a huge school, right?

Hi, i was just wondering whether getting SAT of 2090 is good enough to get into NYU? My high school is rather unique, it isn’t high school but it’s known as junior college and we take the British A level examination. But i’m really really dying to get into NYU stern. I just took my SATs last week and waiting for result, hopefully it’ll get better.

My school doesn’t provide much extra-curricular activities for us, each student is only allowed to join one club or sports team. I’ve been school tennis vice captain, class chairperson for 2 years in a row and orientation group leader (yknow those group leaders in the freshman orientation camp? yes i was one of them). i wonder if it’s sufficient for my credential. Couldn’t do much voluntary work, not much opportunities offered by school as well as the community, to be honest. The school isn’t GPA-based, it’s called national-examination or percentile sth.

I’m just left with another 4-5 months or so to prepare for SAT subject test and TOEFL as well as GCE A level examination. is there any other things that i have to do and accomplish before sending my admission profile to NYU stern? I’m ready to do whatever i can right now. thank you!! :)

@dreamer2012

Pretty self-explanatory. The school is 20,000+ undergraduates. I run into kids from my high school once in a blue moon and the same ones once every couple months or so. Only if she’s in your dorm would the chances of seeing her be higher.

@hanjoon217

I’m not the person to ask for chancing. Tbh, the only thing I can even give you an opinion on is your SAT score. I don’t understand any of this international jargon. A 2090 for Stern likely isn’t high enough. Unless your a URM, most kids I know had at least a 2200 and killed the math section. I think the median is around a 1450 for M+CR and idk what it is out of 2400.

awesome, thanks

Do you know if NYU accepts college credits earned in high school? If so, I’d have about 26 potential credits through AP + pseo that I hope to transfer.

Wow I’m starting to annoy myself in this thread with all my questions. THANKYOU :)

Hi,

I’m going to be a freshman this fall and I just applied for a cross-school minor in English. Do you know how long it takes to approve my application? Thanks very much!

@dreamer2012

Generally, they should accept college credit. AP in CAS is all accepted, except for a AP Lang and something else. Not sure if they don’t accept certain subjects of college credit though or how college credit works for placement. Check on that. I’m pretty sure it counts as transfer credit.

Unless it’s an obvious repeat question that I’ve answered numerous times, I’m okay answering q’s. Don’t ask me chancing questions. These are annoying.

@spicymango

If you do this in front of an advisor, it won’t take long I think, but if you did it online I don’t know. You should get it unless there’s a hold on your NYU account. I don’t even know if they accept cross-school minors from freshmen though.

This may seem like a stupid question but… How do we get the NYU c/o 2016 shirt? Will they be given out during orientation/ welcome week?

@chasingclouds they gave them out during the admitted students day but they might give them out on orientation!

Hey I was wondering what you think:
I did really well in highschool, honors english and 98percent in math on my final, am multilingual and did the french baccalaureat. HOWEVER… i failed my first year of uni, for multiple reasons. This fall ill be going to a small college to get my grades back up and to show that I can do it. Do you think that they give second chances to transfer students at NYU? I am willing to get a super clean record at this college and get my gpa up, but do you think that glitch will completely prevent me from entering NYU.
Its just that because I really want to study at NYU, i will definitely be more productive and work my ass off… i know you’re not an advisor but just wondering what you thought.
Also, what do you think about the social vibe of NYU, being a huge school is it easy making friends because there are so many ppl or contrarily is it hard when you know no-one to integrate?

Thanks for you time and sry for the super long message

I don’t actually have a question, but your posts have been very helpful, jackhammer25. I think what you are doing is a great thing. :)

Do you know if there’s a way to view AP scores through NYU before I get them in the mail? I know cb sends scores in late June/early July to colleges first and it’d be nice to know before mid-July because I’ll be on a trip. :P
