Okay so I’m at Sarah Lawrence right now and the academics are extremely similar to the Gallatin program, tailoring your own major and developing a focus independently etc. I want to do journalism and music business, courses that are NOT offered here at SLC - this is the main reason why I wish to transfer as well as a hunger to live in Manhattan. I’m a proficient writer and my essays are pretty good, I’ve stated the above reasons as to why I’m looking to transfer. I have a 3.3 GPA (not amazing but I took two new disciplines in my first semester and my GPA comes from only two grades, both B+'s) and I’ve read differing opinions on what is necessary GPA wise to gain entry. I’ve heard that a 3.5 minimum is preferred, but I’ve also heard a B average is the minimum requirement which is obviously lower than the A- of a 3.5.
My high school transcript is pretty strong (I did the IB in Asia, so it’s all AP level classes.) I got mostly A’s and my extra curriculars are pretty impressive (lead role in theatre production, yearbook editor, performer in several different things, and a journalist for a local website). I heard that Gallatin is like SLC in that they care far more about whether you fit the school as a person as opposed to a number on a page. I will be applying for financial aid too and they’re need aware for international students which is a benefit.
