NYU Housing Shortage -- Advice/Help?

I was told that I’d get an update by August 12.

Re: the move-in date

From Zach in the Student Resource Center:

“I just spoke with the Assistant Director of Residence Life & Housing and I wanted to let you know that Transfer students are guaranteed a space, temporary or permanent, for an August 25 check-in. The confusion is probably coming into play because wait-listed returning undergraduates are told they cannot check-in until September 2, 2013.”

So, people new to NYU can move into temporary housing (if placed there) on August 25. If you’re a returning student, it’s September 2.

Thanks djromano, that really clears it up for me. Damn so I guess we have to wait till August 12… Djromano have you ever thought of cancelling and going for off-campus housing? I’m actually considering that since it’s pretty much 100% that we’re going to be assigned to a hotel room and they gave us a deadline to cancel until August 2.

I’m just confused as to whether they will refund the $1,000 reservation fee if we cancel by that deadline…

Hi, another (speculation) update:

U-Hall upperclassmen have received emails looking for volunteers to move out of U-Hall and into other upperclassmen dorm buildings. While it’s been confirmed that Floors 2-6 are freshmen housing within U-Hall (total 16 floors), it seems like they are hoping to move upperclassmen elsewhere and then have the freshmen who need housing together with other freshmen in U-Hall rather than have them live with upperclassmen in other dorms.

Of course, I only know the situation happening within U-Hall and there’s a distinct possibility that NYU Housing is working in other dorms to create space for you guys as well. But I just wanted to reassure you guys that NYU Housing isn’t sitting there doing nothing, but rather working hard to get you into housing ASAP. The issue happens every year because of waitlisted students, study abroad, gap year, etc. so I know it’s frustrating but stay patient!

If I hear anything from the U-Hall directors, I’ll let you guys know! :)

Chelsea or Penn Station are less than 15 minutes on the subway from Washington Square.

the housing application portal is down for maintenance, which I believe shows you your housing, so I believe we are finding out today… I hope.

Just got an e-mail with my temporary housing assignment.

hey kemppp in what hotel/which location is your temporary housing assignment located at?

Greenwich. Anyone know anything about it? Have any experience with it?
