NYU (NY) RD 2017 Discussion

Proudmomx2, haha, love that there are other parents out there like me. Psychotic, neurotic, my 5 kids will call me all the above! In fact, since its my last of 5 kids to graduate from this one particular HS, the school might throw me a graduation party, they’re so happy that I can’t bother them any longer. I had the principal on speed dial. Lol. Actually. My kids always knew that’s ninjas their back, and knew I was there to support them in whatever endeavor they pursued. Pat yourself on the back, know you’re doing a great job. The principal of my kids elementary school told me when I called to apologize for bothering him so much, that if I didn’t as iCard for my kids no one will. He empowered me!!

Insanemom: “It’s like getting rejected over and over…”

Thank you so much for articulating this. I sign in once a day and when nothing changes I feel horrible.

Ok so I know about this 2014 FA status not available change but my D does not so I asked her to go on her NYU portal to check it out and it changed but I don’t want to tell her what I know because:

 1. She’ll think I’m nuts to have been on CC so much to have discovered such a thing.
 2. I don’t want to get her hopes up and then be disappointed if this theory is not true.

Muf123, I’m the same way. My daughter is very calm, cool, and collected about this whole dreadful process. I on the other hand know entirely too much info for each of the schools that she’s applied to. I also don’t want her to know that I check CC many times throughout the day. She’s never used CC …but I’m a pro.
Good luck to your daughter!

Muf and proudmom, I also have not told my son about the theory. His did not change, why should we both be miserable until its official? He does know I’m obsessed with this site, in fact, my friends tell me I missed my calling, should’ve been a college guidance counselor! My older son tells me I should write a blog…

Thanks proudmom.
Insanemom I’d read your blog.
I hope our kids receive great news next week.

@Muf, Amen!!

Btw, when do you think? Thurs the 28th at 5 or 6?

I am a mom of NYU sophomore, Class of 2015. I can absolutely relate to all the moms emotional roller coaster rides. been there done that. I stumbled on CC while doing College Research back in 2010. And have stayed ever since. I am more active on the international students thread sharing and helping in whatever little way I can. And I have it thrown at me so many times from friends and family that I should have been a Gudance Counselor, when I read that in the above thread- Insanemom - I had to post a reply. I am like WOW, there are so many of us out there.

All the Best to all of you awaiting results. May the force be with you guys.

Wow! Proudmom and insanemom! I thought I was the only mom anxious. I am so happy to see moms like me. I read your posts and that’s exactly what I think and feel. I go on this site numerous times throughout the day! I actually thought I was going insane. But this is an awesome way to get info and release the stress.

This is my second and last daughter going through the stressful process of college app experience. I don’t post much but am very glad to find moms with same thoughts going through the same experience. Welcome!

Sent from my SGH-T989 using CC

Here’s to all us crazy moms! My truest hope is that each of our kids ends up enrolling in a college that brings them real and lasting happiness. I am expecting a few rejections for my daughter, but am going with the theory that she will be accepted to the schools that are truly the best fit for her.

Loving this all you Moms. I am another anxious Mom, an international and like you waiting waiting waiting. My son thinks I’m nuts being on CC but it is a great source of valuable information as you all have such a wealth of experience. Thank you all for sharing. Good luck to our sons and daughters!

@musicguy and serentic: Mine says the same thing! Does this mean we’ve been rejected?? Has anyone with this ‘pre-change’ been accepted before? I’m so worried because NYU has been my dream school since the 9th grade. :(

My D’s changed and she applied to BPE - I just hope she gets scholarship money b/c even though we don’t qualify for aid, we can’t pay 55k a year easily (we have two others right behind her), and I don’t want her saddled w/ a huge loan pymt when she graduates. She is NOT happy that I told her this is an economic decision as well.

Ladies, all I can do at this point is stay as busy as possible. I am cleaning out cabinets and drawers today. Try it…helps. And I might make a trip to the liquor store today since we are waiting on two notifications tomorrow. I think what drives me the most crazy is that with 6 schools to hear from all over the country, any number of combinations might result and there is just no predicting what will happen.

Hey  I applied LSP. My dad got his MBA at nyu, so I can say great things about you stern people! Also, my sister really wants to go to tisch.

Is anyone else a little disappointed that we won’t be getting an actual letter in the mail? Or will we? I don’t know, out of the colleges I’ve heard back from, it was really nice having the seeing-and-eagerly-opening-the-envelope experience, you know?

Hey guys! Is it true that if you have been accepted to NYU, your financial aid status will says something different? If so, what would it say?

Can everyone who had their “Program” change to “Liberal Studies Core Program” please post their GPA and SAT or ACT? My D has high stats and really good essays, and I’m really surprised her program changed. She know lots of kids at both regular NYU and in the Liberal Studies program, and her stats are higher than her regular NYU friends, and much, much higher than her Liberal Studies friends. Thanks!

That’s actually not that uncommon. I’ve been doing a lot of research, and a lot of people are in the same boat as your daughter. I don’t think there are really any set deadlines as to who gets deferred into LSP.

@paytotheorderof will you please expand on the research you’ve done and the results you found? I never thought my D would be placed I to LSP because she’s such a strong applicant, and has higher stats than all of her NYU friends.
