thank god its april 1… still time for my FA to change… lol

@GGekko: I didn’t end up completing my financial aid forms, and my status changed. Not quite the scenario you were mentioning, but then again, I’m not getting aid.

Don’t give up hope yet!

if i didn’t apply for financial aid, then am i still supposed to see some change in financial aid summary were i to be accepted? because that would make no sense…because i didn’t apply for fin aid. and who’s idea/theory is it that if it doesn’t change, you’re not going to be accepted? thats kind of a whimsical generalisation

I know that last year decisions came out on Ivy Thursday, so wouldn’t it make sense for them to come out on this year’s?

Just a quick comment-my family never submitted any financial materials to NYU and my FA page changed to 2014 early this week

@ghroth24 NYU is not an Ivy League. It’s an amazing school but not Ivy League. Albert as well as officials from NYU state that the release date is April 1st after 5pm. However when I attended my audition for Tisch Drama the head of admissions said (this is a direct quote) “You will receive an email from NYU on or around April 1st”.

@SHHSEL you totally described how I am feeling lol and don’t worry, I am sure you will get into Berkeley or BC! It’s just one more week of waiting and then it’s done. Best of luck! :)

I think everyone realizes that NYU is not an Ivy. However, the point was last year they came out the same day as those schools did. Most schools will say 4/1 for now because that is their deadline. My guess is they said the same thing last year but decisions came out on 3/29.

^I think a lot of people believe NYU is CLOSE to an Ivy in terms of quality and prestige, simply because it has so much name recognition. It’s not, and I think that is why so many students are disappointed when they get there. And I encourage anyone who is strongly considering NYU to make sure they understand the LS program if that is what they have been admitted to. Except for the kids that actually selected it, it’s a big bait and switch and the school is not good about communicating what it means for students to be placed there. I know a kid who had that happen to him and he is absolutely miserable and trying to transfer out. He is not impressed with the quality of the faculty and coursework and feels there is a stigma between LS and the other, more prestigious schools like Tisch and Stern.

Sorry to be a downer on this thread, but I would just encourage students and parents to DO THEIR HOMEWORK before turning down options like UCLA, BU, BC, and so on for NYU.

All great points Sally. My only comments were because it seemed like some thought it was being compared to an Ivy due to the comments about decisions coming out on Ivy Thursday vs. 4/1. I think the Ivy Thursday reference was just a date reference and not comparing to an Ivy. I haven’t seen many schools come out on Monday’s so 4/1 would surprise me that is just their normal self imposed deadline. BU would have said 4/1 too but their decisions came out yesterday.

I wasn’t comparing NYU to an Ivy I was simply stating that last year it came out on an earlier date than 4/1, and that date happened to be Ivy Thursday. I was wondering if maybe decisions would come out on an earlier date this year too

^I understand you weren’t, ghroth. Perhaps that is why NYU chooses to announce its decisions on that date, though…hoping people make that connection. And in the case of the kid I know who is there now, he and his family truly did believe NYU was an Ivy-quality school…they really did not do any homework at all. :(

I really think we’ll hear back before 4/1-- maybe Thursday the 28th because it’s not going to be on Good Friday or during the weekend. It just seems really illogical to send decisions out after ivys, and I think they know that too.

This may be irrelevant but USC is releasing decisions online the 29th… Which is Good Friday. So I’m not sure that Good Friday would be completely out of the question… Are they still working that day?

Strangely enough this year not all Ivies are sending theirs on the same day. I know that Cornell and others are doing Thursday the 28th (my birthday. Yeesh!) but other applicants have said some Ivies are choosing to send them out on Easter Sunday. Since they aren’t religiously affiliated I hardly doubt that whether it’s Easter weekend or not matters to them. But I think we are all hoping to hear early!

Which Ivies are sending out decisions on Easter Sunday? Cornell, Princeton, and Penn are definitely on Thursday, 3/28.

Brown on Thursday, 3/28
although not an Ivy, Johns Hopkins is on Thursday as well as Carneige Mellon

Carnegie Mellon decisions were mailed last Friday and will be on the student portal on Tuesday, March 26.

The sad moment when you have to call it NYU-NY.

Columbia is on Thursday 5pm
