That old debate... USC vs. NYU

Alright guys, I'm sorry to do this, but I need to ask.... NYU or USC?

I've been accepted to both schools for screenwriting, and I'd like to focus in television. I think I've heard most of the pros for each school, i.e. notable alumni; industry is in LA vs the awesomeness of NYC; USC is more commercially oriented while NYU more indie; USC has brand new facilities and equipment; driving is a necessity in LA while in NYC I can sell my car and use the trains, as long as I carry some hand sanitizer; and on and on.

And then there's more personal reasons. NYU ponied up some financial aid, USC did not. NYU offers a specific program my girlfriend wants to do, but the schools in LA do not. And since I hope to be in LA for the long haul after school, I'd almost rather live in New York for two years just to get some different experiences. I'm leaning towards NYU, but I worry about what effect that'll have on my career, through not being able to do as much interning, networking, etc., in LA.

It seems to me that one school might not necessarily be better than the other, just a different focus. So I wanted to ask for the cons against USC or NYU.

From people who've gone to either, or even just toured them, what are some things you didn't like about the schools?

Thanks, folks.

I can’t say I have a personal experience with USC, though I was accepted for a grad journalism program. Seeing as how I did my undergrad in film at NYU, I’m a bit biased. However, I also know a few grad film students who are having a marvelous time right now.

Personally, I think that it all depends on where you come from. The life experience alone of NY, if you’re not from a big city, can really inspire a lot- not to mention offers a wealth of opportunities in walking/subway distance. I worked for Alfonso Cuar
