Actually, only 90% of students accepted ED end up going. THis is for ALL schools, i dont know specifically about NYU. Never in history, has a school brought a case like this to court.

I think NYU is more subtle they ding your high school. Your school counselor is required to sign the ED info too, to make sure you understand what it means. If you turn it down it is my understanding that your high school maybe punished by not accepting future applicants.

Anyone can turn down an ED acceptance from any school if there is a financial aid offer and it's not enough to enable attendance. From the Common App ED agreement:

"Should a student who applies for financial aid not be offered an award that makes attendance possible, the student may decline the offer of admission and be released from the Early Decision commitment."

it aint that bad, they accept a HUGE amout, something like 10,000-20,000

LOL NYU does not accept that many students. That would make its acceptance rate like 40%. Last year it was 24%.

The early decision acceptance rate went up this year to 38% from I think 33% last year, probably because they wanted to lock in more students due to the economy. I think RD acceptances will probably go down due to the increased number of ED kids.

I read this article when I first applied (about the record number) and freaked out, majorly. But now I got in!! So excited. Now I just have to figure out how to afford it...but I really want to so I hope I'll find a way.
