So I have to pick my courses for next year, and I was wondering where NYU fell regarding foreign language. On the website it says 2-3 years, and I currently have 2 (I am in Spanish 3, took Spanish 1 in middle school). I really don't want to take AP Spanish (the next level at my school) because I am not confident that I would do well. So, the base question, would it really affect me if I only had two years of Spanish?

Don't take AP spanish if youre not confident.

i would say take it, colleges want to see a relatively heavy senior courseload. and if you apply early, nyu doesnt even look at senior year grades. unless your gonna do really bad..like maybe low 80s i would say go for it.

yea, if you can keep a C average, then take it...but still if youre overwhelmingly anxious because you know you havent studied hard enough in your earlier years...dont risk it.

So you don't think only taking two years will go against me when applying? I am taking all AP and Pre-AP courses other than required elective classes.

it wont be that big of a deal. hoensty. your sat, gpa, ec's are more important than one bloody class

well- ap spanish would certainly help
2 yrs- that almost seems flaky

if you're worried- do some prep work during the summer, take a class at the local community college, or take some lessons

good luck to you!

"if you're worried- do some prep work during the summer, take a class at the local community college, or take some lessons"

thats way too much time and effort for one class lol..honestly i know a lot of kids that didnt continue with their language and they went to top tier schools i doubt it will make a difference, obvs a language always looks good but i dont think it will hurt you..maybe if you are like very very borderline...but what type of schools are you planning on applying to?

no it doesn't matter if u only have 2.
I only took 2 years of french and got in.

I am planning on applying to schools such as NYU, Barnard, Boston University, and Emerson. I really want to major in dramatic writing/english (I want to be a screenwriter).

Uhhhh...you are aware that classes you took in middle school that count on your high school requirements (such as spanish I) also count as credits when your applying to college???? Even if you took Spanish I in middle school you still have three credits if you took up to spanish 3.

"So you don't think only taking two years will go against me when applying?"

No, it wont.
