Hey guys I just applied to Stern and am a recruited athlete, however it is NYU and they are DIII so the coach doesn't have too much sway. Wondering if anyone has been recruited by NYU? Also, anyone know how much pull the coach has for NYU and how much lower your stats can be than a regular applicant? Thank guys, appreciate the help. Trying to get myself through the next month or so. Forget to mention that I'm a transfer so that may change things up.

from my experience, if a coach really wants you then they can get you through the door…i didn’t end up seriously looking at nyu but did meet with a coach for a preliminary visit as a junior in HS…was told with a 1950 SAT and solid GPA i would be an easy admit, no problem…so if you are pretty decent, you should be fine i would think…good luck to you!

He can’t get you money, but whether he has sway or not depends on the school. Some schools still pride themselves on their athletics even if they are D3. If you asked him, and he said he doesn’t have much sway, that may or may not be true.

Thanks for the replies guys!

boston3223: That information definitely helps. I’m just curious for the admissions process with the coach this year because they have an incredibly large applicant pool and being admitted is harder than ever, especially for Stern. My scores and essays are solid but my GPA is what im worried about… Any other advice or information you can offer? This past month has been such a struggle lol.

rhandco: I couldn’t agree more with the points you raised. I’m just wondering how much a sport will help me since NYU Stern is so competitive and this year is unlike any other.

Let me know what you guys think and thanks agian for the responses.

Did the coach tell you he doesn’t have much sway?

Or did you just hear that?

Best to speak to him directly.

But… if he said it, then for whatever reason
( he actually doesn’t have much sway or he doesn’t want you enough to use his “sway”),
you are not getting any pull from him.

so did you get accepted?
