My son just get off waitlisted and accepted into Stern. He applied to the BPE program. Can someone give me feedback about this program? We have 72 hours to decide.
He is currently accepted into Macaulay Honors college at Baruch. Macaulay is free tuition.
NYU is very expensive but we are ok to pay. Just to want to know how good is this BPE program compare to Macaulay.
First of all, congrats! Those are both very good. Both certainly have their merits. I know quite a bit about the BPE program b/c my older sis got accepted and attended, but chose to switch out. She said that the “global study” that BPE students must do can really detract from their education as they have to go to London in the Fall and Shanghai in spring their sophomore year. While that sounds unique and could really benefit a student, NYU’s schools at London and Shanghai are not up to par with their NYC school and are somewhat bare-bones (particularly Shanghai, very small campus, not a lot of resources). The BPE program itself is kind of all-over-the-place and doesn’t have a strong professional focus, though it is all under the umbrella “business.” My sis transferred out later on because she felt like she wasn’t ready for a real job once she graduated because the things she was learning were too general and didn’t prepare her for any specific field or job. A focus, such as “marketing” or “finance” really can make a difference to employers. It all depends on what your son wants to do in the future and what he likes, obviously. Again, take this with a grain of salt because it is a personal experience and may or may not apply to all students in the program. That being said, best of luck to your son and I hope that he will be happy at wherever he ends up going to!
Thanks for your feedback. It is good to hear if he does not like BPE he has the option to transfer out to study business in finance … etc.
