My daughter got admission in NYU STern Business school finance major. She missed to submit the CSS profile, but she was allowed to submit recently and were told that we will receive Financial aid/scholarship notifications by April 15th.
She also admitted in UVA (In state), however admission to Business school McIntire in third year will be very competitive and there is no guaranteed for admission.
Need suggestion…Is it worth spending 80K per year at NYU? What would be the best option? Though we are working parents in IT still paying so much seems to be overwhelming and I do not feel comfortable or not sure if I am taking right decision or not.
Hard to give any advice before you know what/if you will get in FA from NYU. You’d be looking at the cost difference (I presume UVA is not free so it’s not 80 vs nothing) of one of the best undergrad bus schools in the country, vs a not-guaranteed business school option at a generally very good college. So part of the calculation is financial, and part depends on how important being in business school is.
As a general rule I’d say if you need to take out debt to pay it’s probably not worth it.
UVA is an extremely good choice and having that option for the in-state price is amazing. This is assuming NYU is significantly more expensive than UVA (which I would assume because NYU is notorious for giving bad aid. This means up to a 200k difference in overall price). You may want to check out forums on Wall Street Oasis where other students ask if they should attend UVA or Stern. You will find that many people will suggest that UVA has both a better student experience and amazing recruitment. McIntire publishes its employment data for undergrad students, and their average salary is almost equal to NYU’s. UVA is recruited heavily, and even if your daughter does not recieve admission to McIntire, she will still have on-campus recruiting that she can take advantage. NYU Stern is an incredible program, but it is, at the end of the day, very expensive.
