NYU tisch-DANCE

What would be the required minimum GPA and ACT score for a student to be admitted to the Tisch program as a BFA dancer? My daughter’s grades aren’t the best, however she passed her audition couple weeks ago and we want to know what are the chances of her getting in. She has had 13 years of ballet training as well as in other forms of dance such as contemporary, modern and jazz.

Also, how many are there usually after the cuts because in the city we auditioned in, there were about 16 soloists left and there are 14 other auditions in NY, Miami, Chicago, LA, and San Francisco. So in curiosity, do they choose the top 30 dancers in all cities or do they choose their dancers on the spot based on their solo and interview?

Making it through the cut to perform the solo is obviously a good sign (a cut means you don’t get in) but, as you know, doesn’t guarantee anything. My daughter auditioned in NY, it was a really large group (2 rooms of about 40 dancers each) and they cut down to about 15 in each room.(I think - we did a few of these, details get hazy!) They pick their final recommendations out of all dancers, not a specific ratio from each city, then send them to admissions who make the final decision. I am not sure how weighted/important grades are, but I know NYU is a pretty competitive school academically. They do accept more than 30, because they know that some won’t make the academic cut, and some will choose to go somewhere else, I believe they said they accept about 50 knowing they will lose some. Good luck! This is our last school to hear from, the wait is painful!
