Hey guys. A little help/ outside perspective could be very useful here. As a senior in highschool, I was waitlisted from NYU Tisch’s Film and Television production program. I waited out for an acceptance but never received one, and accepted my admission into The University of Georgia instead. Now as a Sophomore I am looking at applying to transfer to schools with better film production program, and NYU is still at the top of my list.
Accomplishments while at UGA:
-official videographer for a local law firm
-on executive board for UGA Filmmaking Union
-hired director and editor of a music video for a local talent, which has over 15,000 views on youtube.
-Assistant Director on project screened at University Union film festival
-Writer of another project screened at University Film Festival
-accepted to UGA’s Cannes Film Festival Study Abroad program- the only Freshman accepted.
-co founder of revived Film Studies Ciné club
-Production Assistant on multiple grad student and undergrad student film projects.
While I have leadership positions and extracurriculars on my application, and will have two film professors’ recommendation letters, my GPA is not awesome, sitting at a 3.46 at the end of this semester. The second semester of freshman year was rough for me, and my grades suffered because of it.
So my question is - is having been waitlisted (and having emailed back and forth with the dean of student admissions in Tisch a couple of times since), and having a good resume and recommendations for the application, enough to help with my less than stellar GPA?
Does anyone here have an external transfer experience similar, or any opinions on the matter to give? Any feedback (whether negative or positive) would be appreciated.
Thanks so much
