NYU Transfer 2011

Hey everyone - As this is my first post and I'm not exactly brilliant on the computer, please bare with me :)

I am currently a freshmen at a selective college in Missouri. However, it has always been an aspiration of mine to go to NYU for law - Now apart from this being a chance thread, I would also beg that you would give me some advice, since you are all absolutely brilliant at doing so.

My question is simply whether or not I should transfer - Will me being at NYU and graduating there greatly strengthen my chances at getting into NYU Law or does it really matter? Also, should I apply after this next semester or wait until next year?

Ok... Stats time.

College:

After freshmen year I will have a 3.75
Member of a Professional Fraternity
and Numerous music groups (quintets, quartets, etc.)

SAT: On the low side... around a 1800, I could probably get it higher but should I retest?

High School: 3.4-5 Numerous extra currics

Also, how much of an emphasis do they place on your high school transcript?

Thanks for all the help!

I would have to say a decent chance.

High school doesn't matter as much as your college GPA - Keep it up and you have a pretty decent shot at getting in.

I've been accepted for transfer into Spring '08, I have known people who went to NYU and I can tell you that despite what the official policy is, getting your undergrad degree at NYU definitely increases your chances at being accepted into one of their Grad School, assuming you pull off good grades...

Definitely not true.

NYU is not a school that is known for in-breeding. Having completed 2 grad degrees at NYU I can tell you first hand there were very few (single digit) students in my program that completed undergrad at NYU. Those that were there were most likely facbrats who were getting tuition remission (although they had to pay the tax on the tuition).

Look, obviously you have some experiences that differs from mine but I'm 25 and I have 2 older siblings, I have known recent NYU undergrads who got into NYU Law with LSAT scores and records that are subpar compared to people that got rejected so if it wasn't their status as NYU undergrad graduates that got them in...then what? Unless you are on the admissions board at one of the NYU Grad schools, you have no clue if an applicant's status as an NYU alumni positively affects their admission chances..I would say that anecdotal eviidence supports the fact that it helps...just because your specific Grad classes didn't have a lot of NYU undergrads does not mean being an alumni is not considered, even if not explicitly stated...Also consider that an NYU undergrad with a good academic record can get into some of the best grad schools in the country so in any given year, there may very well be more NYU undergrads going to other Grad schools, so having a small number of NYU alumni is not an indication of NYU undergrads being rejected from NYU grad programs...
