I am a senior in boarding school right now.
Now I am choosing between NYU and Bryn Mawr.
I applied for NYU’s Global Studies Program because my interest in humanities and the the free time allow me to attend fashion design at Parsons.
BMC is a very prestigious college with very good academics and sports opportunities. I visited and went to one Medieval Lit class. The professor is very good. The campus, students, and vibe all just seem like a bigger size boarding school to me though… Most of the girls look like they went to good private high school and are very nice, preppy, and smart.
I am thinking about transferring to the Brown+RISD or Columbia after one year. I don’t know which one might be better.
It comes down to personality. I go to Bryn Mawr and certainly fit the old school, preppy, private school model. The school is small but the classes and professors are incredibly interesting and intellectually challenging. I can’t leave my dorm without running into people I know! If you prefer the city vibe and the more anonymous, big lecture hall version of college, NYU is the choice.
Bryn Mawr has, from what I’ve seen, a far superior reputation. NYU is more of a new wave, up and coming school where Bryn Mawr is a sister school and has the prestige and preppy reputation that may come in handy when applying to grad/law/medical school or jobs. It seems from the inside that BMC has more of the boys (or girls) club attitude and there are resources available to students here that are not easy to find at a big, fairly young reputation school like NYU
