NYU vs CMU

nyu and carnegie mellon.. torn between these two schools..

I got into CAS for NYU, and CMU's HSS (humanities and social sciences) as undecided major, but there is a high chance that I would switch schools since I don't really know what kind of career/major I want yet..

I know you guys will be biased towards NYU, since this is a NYU forum and you guys are probably students there. but I just want to ask about the pros and cons of this university.

I love big cities, but I'm not sure about attending a school in the middle of nyc without an actual campus. It's even harder for me to decide since I wont be able to visit any of my schools and experience the atmosphere first-hand.

How is making friends/the campus life at NYU ?? Is it hard to meet people because the students go out into the city to make friends?

how has your NYU experience been so far? just any personal thoughts that might help me decide? (can you also include where you're from, your major, grade, etc.. you don't have to if you dont want to but I just want to know how people think..)

(BTW, I posted the same thing on CMU's forum so I'll be getting opinions from students at both schools, so please feel free to say anything you think will be helpful! thanks!)

For what it’s worth, there are more majors available as a student in CAS than in HSS, as far as I’m aware. So depending on what you eventually decide on doing, you may not actually have to switch schools if you go to NYU?

Yes, that’s true…

I actually am in the same predicament with zero chance of actually visiting the campuses itself.

@animelover67 what major, or are you also undecided?

CMU is great for computer science, engineering, maybe some other sciences as well. But I don’t know if they’re as good as NYU for other things.

If you want to eventually work at where there are a lot of people, aka big cities, NYU prepares you for that already.

@bimmerboy I’m gravitating toward biology but I’m still very undecided
