**** NYU Waitlist of 2021****

All people who got waitlisted, lets discuss our chances of getting in.

@applefreak665 do you know anything about waitlist chances? :confused:

Does it matter when you send the waitlist form or not?

Hey. I applied to Tandon. International, applied for fin. aid. It’s need aware for International applicants.

GPA: 3.9/4.0
SAT: 1300 (Super scored)
AP classes: AP Calc AB
AP Micro econ
AP Macro econ
EC’s: DECA, FBLA - Placed 1st in districts for banking and financial systems (This award happened after I submitted my application)

@WiseSeaweed idk anything concrete about chances. I was looking on NYU’s admissions blog and their FAQ page and they said acceptance off of waitlist varies by year. They also apparently have waitlists for different colleges. 2-3 years ago, the blog said that Tisch, Stern, Tandon, and Abu Dhabi were full but the other schools had openings. I guess you have to hope that the school you applied to didn’t have a lot of other people applying/accepting waitlist.

Were there any conditions of the wait list? Anyone asked to submit additional information?

@applefreak665 thanks for the info! Which college did you apply to?

@kollege4me2 you just had to submit the waitlist form where you could accept going on the waitlist and include any additional information that could help

However, they explicitly said that they don’t want to receive any documents or calls.

Got wait-listed as well… When should I expect to hear back?

@WiseSeaweed I applied to CAS for bio

@eleanorasch They say between May 5 and August 1 (i wish i was kidding)

A couple of people I know (International and computer science-Tandon) are not going to NYU. They have better offers. Does this mean that there is a super small chance that I could get accepted. That’s how waitlist works right? Someone doesn’t commit and one is picked up from waitlist pool?

@applefreak665 nice!

August 1st??? What the heck

I wonder if elaborating the interest thing and the updates since the application part matter a lot in this process… I don’t know if they are expecting like a 1~2 sentences or a well-structured paragraph.

And I assume that the chances of acceptance is VERY slim for the waitlisted, right?
I saw that 21% of the students were placed in waitlist this year o_o

@Nimisha99

Yeah, pretty much. I’m just hoping that the ones that got accepted for CAS goes to a different school because they see a better chance… Even though I doubt it cause NYU is a great place to spend your college life.

@Nimisha99 In a nutshell, thats how it works. NYU will wait until May 1 when everyone enrolls. Then by May 5, they start considering waitlist candidates. This process goes up until Aug 1 when they are sure that their class is secured. Also, there are waitlists by school so if your school is under enrolled, you have a better chance of getting in.

I hope so. I just read the entire NYU Waitlist 2020 thread and it seems like few people got their acceptances around 15 may as well. That’s when it started and it went on until July 24.

@Nimisha99 Thats nice to know. On the thread, could you estimate how many people got in?

I could be wrong but I would estimate 20-30 people. It’s hard to say because I think there’s not a lot of people on the thread @applefreak665 And they also followed this page for updates http://admissionsblog.nyu.edu/ Some of them got emails as well around end of may that said they should call the admissions office to show their interest. There is definitely no pattern at all

There’s already a waitlist thread. I’m shook. I got waitlisted too though. Congrats to everyone.

EDIT: However, I do believe more than 30 people would be accepted from waitlist. It really comes down to the schools and programs the waitlisted people are applying to as well. If you check the NYU admissions blog from previous years, they updated and there were at least 100 people admitted off the waitlist. However, each year varies. This was a very competitive year though.

I just did the waitlist app and added a crap ton of ECs and achievements since I felt that was the weakest part of my original app.

There weren’t a lot of people on the thread and I didn’t count, so I could definitely be wrong. @kxera

@Nimisha99 No worries. Most people who got waitlisted probably weren’t on the thread anyway.
